Anybody ever ran a pre oiler to help with the noisy starts on these gas engines. Like the Amsoiler? With any success?

The rattling you hear is probably not from oil starvation, it is from piston slap, which is the pistons chattering back and forth as they are warming up and and expanding. I don't think that a pre oiler would really help that issue at all. Most people that I have known with those trucks say that they get a lot life out of the engine with no real issues.

Just a thought.:ro)

I was under the same impression, but what made be wonder was the fact that when I change my oil and when I add oil, every time I start the engine right after, it is as quiet as we would like them to be at start up.
So it has made me wonder if part of it is possibly the fact the top end of the engine is being lubed, making it quite. ??????????????

Pre oilers should not benefit you at all with a stock 8.1. :badidea: The oil filter doesn't drain out on a Chevy like some others, so the oil is right there when the pump starts to pull. There's very little lag time to get oil to the bearings. In fact, the oil pressure is up before the gauge shows it because of the damping in the gauge circuit.

When you change or add oil, you're pouring oil over the top of some parts like cam/lifters, crankshaft/rods. You aren't getting oil inside bearings like the preoiler would, so I don't see how your engine could be quieter after changing/adding than when you just start it up.

IMHO- Don't bother with the preoiler. You could cause more problems by installing it than you might solve with it.
