Europe has embraced clean diesels for their performance, fuel economy and improved emissions. Why has the U.S. market been slower to respond?

One big reason is Europe's high fuel taxation. Folks over there love smaller more fuel efficient autos and a diesel engines higher fuel efficiency is openly welcomed when paying $4 to $5 per gallon.
