Since the 6 speed allisons now use a bigger and better apply in the c-2(just like transgo did to modify the 5 speed trucks) you can basicly get all the benifits of a transgo kit in a 6 speed allison by just installing the trim valves in the valve body. Just the trim valves is called the Transgo Jr. Kit. Its mostly viewed as a 6 speed only kit(although you could put it in a 5 speed I suppose with much less effect). Its cheaper plus it dosnt require dropping the trans just the valvebody

A full Transgo Kit(for 5 speeds) includeds the trim valves, the stuff to modify the c2 apply piston and the differnet springs, some gaskets, converter drainback stuff (if your old trans hasnt had the update), parking pawl spring(duno why  )destructions and a cool little lighted keychain ):h (think thats all....someone correct me if I'm wrong) Its intended to be used in a 5 speed allison and requires dropping the transmission(although you can stick just the trim valves in the VB in a 5 or 6 speed truck and pitch the rest).

I am going to make this sticky....if anyone has any info to add or things i have posted that are wrong please add to this thread. Thanks :)

BTW I rmember someone did a nice write up on the jr kit when it forst came out but I couldnt find it

Very easy to do, although it is not a "clean" job, took me about 1 hour to drain the trans, pull the pan, swap the parts and reinstall the pan and add new fluid. I did mine at about 750 miles, did not reset the taps, just drove with care and relearned the trans. Anyone who has a ton of miles might be advised to have the taps reset. JM2C.

Is the Transgo Jr. mod worth doing in a new truck? I guess I'm not as mechanically knowledgeable on the Allison Trans as I thought. I'm running a programmer and would like to not smoke my trans....Could someone give me some insite to this? Thanks....

Mike emailed me and said it would be good. But it still does not fix the 5th and 6 gear slip. Said the tranny was good to about 400 RWHP.

Here's what he sent me

The Transgo JR will hold very well in the 6speed.The '06 and later Alli has much improved pistons on the C1 and C2 clutches in the front rotating assmbly. The shift kit raises mainline pressure from 125 psi to 245 psi to the clutches and shifts remain very comfortable. One thing to remember is that after converter clutch is applied, mainline psi drops to 145 so your problem will occur in 4th on up. I would venture to say 400 hp ( at the wheels ) without too much abuse is the safe limit..You are at about 300 hp at the wheels stock.

Just installed jr. kit. I like it because it shifts like a normal tranny now.

I did a search on "Taps" and read that the Tech II is needed to accomplish the reset. Is there another way?

Is this the kit for the TransGo Jr.?

Not many parts!

Note:I reviewed the install instructions and the one thing missing are the torque specs, so the service manual is almost a must.

On a full Transgo kit? Do you have to install the converter drainback springs. I thought i read this was already done on 2004.5 lly's .Is there any benefit to just putting the trim valves in the valve body .Save the rest for the rebuild.

Is there any drilling in a install of a transgo jr. and what are tap cells? I have 6500km on my truck if I install a jr. will I need to reset them?
Thanks

The PDF file has been posted here on the TransGo JR. The answer is yes for the drilling in the valve body plate.

TAPs are the area in memory that the TCM stores the information it learns as you drive the vehicle. When a transmisssion gets changed it is best to reset/clear them so it begins learn the changes you have made faster. Once the TCM has learned it changes from a Fast learn mode into a slow learn mode so when you reset/clear the TAP cells it puts the TCM back into the fast learn mode.
