: TTS tow tune ...Good value?
04ROB 07-12-2004, 03:56 PM I've read the great reviews about TTS's tow tune, and thought that this was just what I was looking for, but at $595?
If I went that route I would lose my stock programming and risk a potential problem should any warrenty issues arise. The alternative is to by another PCM at an additional cost for approx $400. Now I'm in this deal for $995!, and no gauges
Am I not better off with the Edge and have all those gauges and multiple settings and features? Then I can remove the Edge when if I need any warrenty work done,
What am I missing here? I just don't see the logic in buying TTS,
Rob
Max Power 07-12-2004, 04:01 PM Those who have the TTS tune say that it is smoother then the edge. Other then that, I am with you I don't see any other real advantages.
I would imagine the tts will stack with the edge for a bit more additional HP as well.
tbone1227 07-12-2004, 04:39 PM well if you want a really good program that will run super smooth, give you the extra HP youre looking for and not kill a stock tranny on the LLY - get the TTS, you wont be dissapointed. It will also remove the speed limiter, and adjust for true tire size. Spend the extra $$, get the PCM from Steve already programmed and youre good to go, just remove and replace with the stock PCM when warranty issues arise
dmaxalliTech 07-12-2004, 04:50 PM I think Steve is working on a bidirectional set up that will allow the program to be backed out instead of having to replace PCM...
McRat 07-12-2004, 05:12 PM It depends on what you are looking for. I can pretty much guarantee that you will be very pleased with the TTS if you are looking for a painless daily driver and towing tune. You probably don't need gauges with the tow tune. I determined this by the EGT's I saw with the two modules stacked. Just over 1300 with the TTS + Level 3 Edge, so the TTS by itself should be no problem.
I agree that the Edge has just about the coolest features I've ever seen in an automotive product. Very high-tech. Today I received the production release of the LLY module. I will try to do some more testing very soon.Edited by: McRat

If that would have just happened a few months ago, I would have gotten one.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
Desert Diesel 07-12-2004, 06:43 PM I don't understand why everyone has an issue/desire with being able to go back to stockhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif. I have not heard of a single person being denied warranty with this program LLY or LB7.
My dealer even told me to go to TTS before they even knew I was running the program. All I can say is that after running this program for the last 30,000 mile I have no desire to go back to stock, and for the most part it is an invisible mod.
It is by far the best program out, IMO of coursehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
tbone1227 07-12-2004, 06:47 PM very well put - i just cant wait for more tunes to come out for the LLY - Steve, you out there ?? hopefully hes got something in the pipeline
DMax_Doug 07-12-2004, 08:03 PM I agree with Desert Diesel. When I had injector work done by the dealership some time ago, and had the TTS program loaded, and told them so. It was just not an issue for them or me.

You who have understanding, reasonable dealers to work with, maybe do not appreciate how lucky you are...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Some of us must have the ability to return the thing to stock in order to successfully deal with unreasonable SM's.
Mike L. 07-12-2004, 11:08 PM My Duramax was stock on the ride home from the dealer. Ain't seen the bitch since. If you look at Got Juices avatar, you know what Diesel Tech was doing to my Duramax on day 2. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif Only kidding Steve. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Mike L. 07-12-2004, 11:11 PM On another note,
BIG DIPPER installed his Juice on the dealer parking lot before he left. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif. Thats what I'm talking about. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Rock On.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

DMax_Doug 07-13-2004, 02:08 AM 04Rob,
Having owned and/or driven most of the tuners available; my opinion is that the TTS tunes are the most refined, drivable, and powerful tunes available. I've owned tuners that smoked like freight trains on modest power settings, I've owned others that smoked less but sounded like freight trains...if I were starting over with an LLY, I'd buy the TTS tow tuner now, then start bugging the hell out of Steve for the next level.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Zeeb's point about difficult dealers is a valid one, however. If its a concern, buy an extra PCM. It will still cost less than buying another tuner, eventually driving someone else's TTS-equipped truck (like I did), then end up buying the TTS tuner anyway.

tbone1227 07-13-2004, 11:18 AM aha, so ive gotta start buggin steve for a new tune eh ?
04ROB 07-14-2004, 11:19 PM Thanks guys for all your input, I've got some serious thinking and more homework to do on this. I plan to follow up with Steve at TTS for any further info.
I'm not totally convinced that the Edge for the LLY is bug free or as refined as the TTS even though it has loads of cool stuff to go with it. Besides If I got the Edge I know I'd toast some plates (I'd have no willpower with those buttons at my fingertips)
Much appreciated info
Rob
Matador 07-15-2004, 12:58 AM I have an LB7 with the Edge/Attitude and I haven't tried any other boxes/tuners on my Dmax, but I can't see how anything could possibly be smoother than the Juice. Even towing my 7K# boat (level 1) is very smooth.

I doubt you will toast trans conponents with the Edge using default settings. If you install it with the Thermocouple, it has built-in safeguards against engine or trans damage.
That being said... The TTS Tow is worry-free. No muss, no fuss. It acts like it's stock, just faster. I brought my truck to GMC for routine service, and they didn't say anything, BUT I did not volunteer info either.
Even if the TTS Tow cost $2000, I can promise that you will think it is worth the money. It's that good. No kidding.
04ROB 07-16-2004, 08:15 AM Sent off an email to TTS, The reply was that they are working on something new without providing any details, and may be a month or more.
Not much to tell, wish I had more detail or info.
