1996 1500 ext. cab z-71 sputtering, hesitating, fish biting at highway speeds, put on a new pmd and it did not fix problem. still getting 1216 & 1217 codes. any ideas before i trash the whole truck.

I may be wrong but I thought the 1216 code was the death code for the injection pump.

No reason to trash the truck, just check the codes through a GM dealership that has a decent Diesel Tech. If the tech recommends replace, then replace the IP and drive another 150k worry free miles on a good truck.

The 1216 was the code that did my IP in. If, and I doubt you are, but if you are under 120k, your IP may still be covered under the factory IP replacement. Good luck, and dont lose faith, as there are alot of great minds on here that will help for free.

What fuel are you running?

1216 can be bubbles in fuel, 1217 can be low battery volts, and\or bad connections

They seldom occur at the same time

1216 killed my ip. gm warranted it as it was under the 120k miles and under 11 years old.
