I currently own a 2004 Ford F 250 crew cab 4x4 6.0 diesel. It is going back under the California lemon law because I have had way to many problems with it.
My question is I just ordered a 2005 GMC crew cab 4x4 diesel and I was wondering what kind of problems will I have or will I have any at all because Im fed up with having to take my truck in the shop all the time. Also I heard that both of the diesel motor were made to run a little while if you ran out of coolant doesn anyone know anything about this thanks Rob

There are no real problems with the LLY. It is the 2nd year of productions so all the wrinkles should be worked out and you should be able to enjoy your truck. I don't think you will be disappointed. There are a lot of ex 6.0L powder stroke owners here.

Any company can make a lemon. I have a friend that has a F-250 diesel and it is a very nice truck and he's had no problems with it. I have a Chevy, and it is a very nice truck. I wouldn't let one bad truck spoil your experience with a brand if that is what you want. Personally, I buy GM products because my Dad was a GM employee for 30 years. That gives me a great price and I feel like I'm supporting my Dad's retirement.
I haven't heard of any real problems with the LLY, but if you ask RickDLance, he might not paint such a bright picture. I'm sure there are others in this forum that aren't as happy with their D-Max's as I am. I personally love this thing.
Check this post out for some other ideas of problems others are experiencing

baimpala I have always owned GM products myself I was born in a GM family. this was my first Ford I ever bought and 2 weeks ago I went to buy another and it broke down in the test drive so Im not gonna get bit by the same dog twice. So im going back to the gm product that I have never had a problem with. But I have never had a diesel from GMC and I wanted to see how they were holding up. thanks for the info Rob

The two things you need to be the most concerned with ar ethe engine and the tranny.
the engine is made by izusu and has produce millions of diesel engines going abck to 1936 and I think thay have learned a few things over the years.
The Allison transmission is in the Abrams Tanks - nuff said there.
That was enough for me - oh, and besides it rides like a dream, and pulls like a train.

Robdog,
I hate to hear about anyone's bad experience with vehicles. I try not to be partial to GM products, try to keep as open a mind as possible, but I will say that I had a Ford Escort when I was a youngster, and I tore that thing up faster than you can imagine. I bought a Pontiac Sunbird GT in '92 and drove it HARD, and it kept going strong. Every GM product I've ever owned has been good to me. I'm sure my time will come, however for a lemon, just hope it doesn't.
I try to take very good care of my cars except when behind the wheel. For some reason all of my vehicles come with a binary gas pedal, on or off.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Good luck,
