My brother is looking for a little more power from his 04 and I am looking at the TST powermax. I know there are probably better boxes but if the price is right...? I want something with gauges built in so he won't have to go and get a separate set and I like the idea of having it back down on egts.
Is there any other mods needed to run the TST?
How does it compare to the edge juice w/ attitude?
My brother hauls or tows about 60% of the time so it won't be empty. Any other tips?
Thanks ahead of time.

I have the TST powermax and it is ok. The Edge is more widely used and distributed. You will have to install the EGT probe, but it is pretty much plug and play. I haven't used the Edge, so I can't really compare the TST to it. I think the Edge with attitude is a little cheaper and it shows you more info than the TST does. The TST was installed on my truck when I bought it, so I haven't really looked at getting and Edge.

i had an edge and a predator on my other LB7 and now have the tst on my new one. Its all preference i guess, i love the predator because of all the diagnostic abilities but it had high egts and the power was so so. The edge well maybe the new ones are good to go but from my experience i wouldnt mount one on a bicycle!! Dont get me wrong when it was working it was great, i liked how it had some diagnostics and guages and it was really nice having the defuel for egts and for the tranny slipping. The tst i just love it, no it doesnt have any diagnostics but it smokes really nice and you can tune the horsepower and the torque seperatly. You dont have to worry about the whole only reading up to 25 psi boost like the edge (mine has read up to 29 so far). The down side IT WILL LIMP YOU TRANNY!!!!! Mine limped with power on 4 and TE (torque enhancement) on 4. Also my tst makes the injectors knock really loud from about level 2 up. I havent towed anything yet so i cant help you there. Hope this helps some, but like i say it all comes down to personal preference.

Thanks again bigblackdmax, i havent gotten it over power level 6 and TE level 4 yet until i get the pyro hooked up and like i said i limped it on level 4-4 so once its hook up theres gonna be carnage LOL!! Maybe you guys will get a pic on here of an ALLEY sprayed all over the interstate!!

I have hit my EGT cut-off with mine set on 3/3...I have the cutoff set at 1350..so be careful. I have limped mine too set on 4/4, but I was towing a small pop-up and had camping gear in the back. Mine doesn't smoke hardly at all. I read your other post. Did yours come with a boost increaser to hook up on the vaccuum line to the wastegate? I have seen 30 or 31 psi on my boost guage on the TST. I can't say anything bad about my TST, but I would not recommend it for towing (at least nothing above 3/3) since it will not back down the same way as an Edge would for tranny slip.

It sound a little too much for what my brother is using the truck for. If it where me, I would look at it but I don't think he would like it.
Thanks for all of your replies. I am trying to learn more and more about these trucks.

How about a Van Aaken smartbox. Still have to buy gauges, but a good overall box in a stock-70-110 setup.

I agree with Lock. The smartbox isnt bad at all even though ya gotta buy guages. I like the safety features and the realatively low egt's.

I like my TST box, but looking to go bigger. Check with TST to see if a box for an '01 will also work on your truck. If so, I could be persuaded to make you a good deal.
