Trans temp is getting hotter, I live in CA, I have 15,000 miles on my 06, I tow a car hauler, car&trailer are about 7200 lbs, Ive only towed two times, and the trans temp never went above 150 when towing, truck was 3 months old. When the truck is unloaded and I'am driving home from work the temp will go up to 190. Traffic is moving about 40mph max.
Should I upgrade the trans cooler, should I go to a fan cooler or just a bigger cooler?

Tempature is what kills fluid which harms the tranny. In saying that the Allison is pretty stout and your well in normal operating tempature range.

If you want longevity and lower maintenance costs and want to keep the temperatures at the ultimate operating temps below 170 degrees I would go with a better cooler.

MikeL I do believe has a upgraded cooler for your truck. Good insurance if you ask me.

I agree with Mack; your temps don't scare me as the Alli is built to operate at 200F all day long. I prefer a temp about 180F and think you should switch to synthetic fluid. If you feel uncomfortable with your temps, I have a cooler that helps and it drops right in.

I did switch to a synthetic fluid, I cant think of the name, but Alli said, it is what I should run in my truck. I just wanted to make sure that it that is a normal temp for being in traffic. When I was towing the temp was cooler but I was driving at 60mph for about 2hrs and never stoped like you would in traffic.
Would it hurt if I just put a fan on so when I was in traffic or on a long haul, I could turn it on to help cool the trans?

Yes it would help. If you do that, either mount the fan on the passenger side of cooler ( inlet ) or run twin fans.

MIKE, I dont follow your mounting locations? you dont mount the fan on the front of the cooler, or are you saying mount the fan on the cooler lines?
