: GoodYear Silent Armours
DAN DIESELMM 11-07-2006, 12:00 PM I ordered a set of 265/75/16s E load range last week. Was supposed to have them installed today. The tire dealer called this morning and said they did not arrive yet.So with time to think..............Are they good tires.Does anybody else have them? Any pics would be appreciated.I narrowed my decisons down to BFG ATs,Toyo Open Country ATs, and Bridgestone Revos. The GoodYears were offered in blackwall and that helped my decision.
ct0218 11-07-2006, 03:44 PM I just replaced my Revo's with Silent Armors. The are more comfortable riding, but we haven't had any snow in the mountains yet. They are supposed to be better on snow and ice than the Revo's (which were good). So far I am impressed. 50K warranty, and I got 44K out of the Revo's, almost shot, but 1 developed a sidewall splitting problem so I changed them all. I'm running stock 215's. I like the all-black no white lettering tires on a dually. Once you start rotating you get a mix of lettered and black wall tires and I never like that.
Smittys67 11-07-2006, 09:46 PM I had Goodyears (silent armors) on my last Dually I hated the tires they only lasted 24000mi just my 2 cents.
fastjohnny 11-07-2006, 10:15 PM FYI, goodyear employees are apparently on strike, I had trouble getting some workhorse extra grips, but managed to find a goodyear commercial tire store that had them in stock. Discount Tire was unable to order them due to the strike.
So good luck, hope they are in a warehouse somewhere!
ct0218 11-07-2006, 10:21 PM Well, they have a 50,000 mile warranty, you should have gotten a lot back. My neighbor had Revo's on an identical truck as mine. He got 28K, I got 44K. Is it the tire, or the driver?
Thankful 11-08-2006, 05:47 AM I ordered a set of 265/75/16s E load range last week. The GoodYears were offered in blackwall and that helped my decision.
Where did you order yours from? That's the exact tire I'll be going with when my stock tires wear out. And 265 load E tires will carry more than the stock 245 load E tires.
JRZ2500HD 11-08-2006, 10:22 AM We have a set on our work truck. They haven't got the life I expected but have great traction all around. Now I hear that they have the pro-guard for heavy trucks. I think the first ones have a soft compound whick causes them to disappear quickly. The new pro-guards should have a longer life. Hope to have a set before winter.
duramax/a 11-08-2006, 09:43 PM I put them on a few months ago. So far they are great. The traction is supurb on wet roads or sand. The price was right too.
phazar 11-09-2006, 05:22 PM mine were out of round, tried 7 of them before telling them where to put them and bought bfg. so i guess you could say, i hated them.
locknload 11-09-2006, 09:31 PM great tire......lived up to the 50 k warranty...on second set......balanced up well, no shimmy, right up to limiter :ro)
Dieselman84 11-10-2006, 08:04 AM Great tire, have a set of LR C on my 1500. I have about 40k on them and they still have good tread. They get good traction, but took quite a bit of weight to balance up. I got some of the first ones to hit the dealer, and will probably buy another set within the next month.
DAN DIESELMM 11-12-2006, 06:27 PM Tire dealer cannot get them shipped in? So now im looking at the BridgeStone dueler revos lets see what the new week brings?
DAN DIESELMM 12-03-2006, 10:32 AM Guys i need some advice still no tires. Are the Silent Armours any good? They are supposedly on back order. I have been patient with the dealer a neighbors friend but starting Monday im going to call around and see who has them in stock. Or should i look at another brand? Was leaning towards the BridgeStone Revos as a second choice.
cit1991 12-03-2006, 11:15 AM I just bought 4 (in 265). Nice ride. Quieter than I thought they would be. No problems balancing.
Much better over sharp bumps than the stock tires.
No offroad report yet. Got em mostly for the occasional romp through mud.
I run 55F, 50R.
dmaxski 12-04-2006, 01:10 AM Dan DieselMM,
This is my second winter on my 285's. I run them year round and am happy with their traction and performance. I tow a 13,000 lb fiver in the summer and expect them to wear a little quicker than expected. Around 25,000 km on this set with approx. 50-60% left. Sledding last year, I got into most places in 2wd. I will buy these again. FWIW.
DYNOALFRED 12-08-2006, 06:54 PM Return them you will be lucky to get more then 15000 miles if you tow with your rig
1498 TC HET OPERATOR 12-30-2006, 12:25 AM goto Tirerack.com. Read the tire reviews and survey. I got lucky at a local Sears Auto shop. I bought 4 Goodyear Silent Armor, Pro Grade yesterday. I have not driven in snow yet. The new tires are quieter with the Kevlar lining.
ASCTLC 12-30-2006, 08:12 AM Goodyear has been on strike for a while so places that didn't stock up on them may have trouble getting an order filled.
Having said that, I haven't run the Silent Armors (yet) but have the Revos. My wife and I have been very pleased with the Revos so far (my truck and her Cherokee) so I wouldn't be too concerned about buying the Revos if you can't get the Silent Armors.
Two of my friends run the Silent Armors and they state that they are pleased with them so far. They don't have a lot of miles put on them yet so only time will tell if they are still pleased as the tread wears.
I am also interested in how the Silent Armors do long term. The compound in the Revos do not harden over time so they continue to grip very well throughout their useful life. A key criteria for a tire in my opinion.
Goodyear employees just accepted an contract so they should be going back to work soon.
