To or three weeks ago I took a 1000mi+ trip pulling my 28ft 5er. Twice during the trip it stuck in second gear. The first time I was waitting in line to regester at a state park, I was stopped on a slite incline in drive, in t/h and when I went to pull ahead the truck started to move and then there was a very loud and hard bang. The whole truck shook but then it went up the hill in first. It was good for a couple of days and then it did it again but I cought it and I got off the throtle and all was O K. Last week I pulled 150mi with 5er on and had no problems. Anybody ever herd of this before or am I the only one.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

You need to post some more info; Year of truck, mileage, any past problems, trans maintenance history, etc.

Most common shifting problem with the Ally seems to be the NSBU switch, but that depends on some of the other factors.

I'm no Allison expert, but the guys who are will need more information...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

The Ally won't downshhift to first if you have your foot on the accelerator when you stop. Mine would hang like that if I tried a rolling stop when in a hurry, foot on the brake and gas at the same time - that slam into first really wakes you up!!!

If you have an '01 truck, there is a computer update that will help with the downshift when stopped. Or, you could drive with only your right foot http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

I'm not sure I want to give any more info, DAVE SKI allready knows I'm a two foot driver http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif Its a 02 with 22000 on it. I have had no other problems with it, well I don't think it does much when in T/H and it's down shifting. I have two buddies with 03's and you can really feel them down shift and slow the truck down. My truck seems to coast alot more than my buddies. I bought the truck with 12000mi on it and all I have done is change the spin on filter, which leads me to another question. I want to change the trans fluid to syntheic but the stealer will not flush, only drain and changh filters, not good to mix I heard. The closest place that will flush is 30mi away at a cost of $300. Is the syntheic worth it. Thanks
