Hi, I just bought the truck a few weeks ago and I love it. I just had a quick question.
Let's say i'm in a flat parking lot, I pull into a parking space and place the transmission into park. When I take my foot off of the brake (after it is in park) the truck will rollback a couple of inches. It will actually even do it on a slight downgrade (when you would think it would roll back?).
It's not really a big deal, I just want to make sure that nothing is wrong with it.
I'll throw in a pic of the truck alsohttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Well considering that the parking pawl in the allison transmission can handle 15,000 lbs... I wouldn't worry too much.

gm allows up to three foot of movement on some applications!!!
As long as it engauges, its working. The politically correct solution is to set the park break firsthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif, I know I donthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

If you're towing, you might want to set the parking brake first as dmaxalliTech suggested. If you're on a hill with a load and try to come out of park, you'll get a distinctive "I don't wanna" sound from the tranny/pawl. True, it's supposed to hold alot of weight, but it doesn't sound good if nothing else.

I do set the parking brake if parking on an incline. I always set it if I know the vehicle won't stay put. But this happens on level ground and even on a slight opposite incline (where you think the truck would roll the opposite way). It isn't hard to move the shifter when it does that though.

I'm not sure but the park pawl can handle more than 15,000lbs, I think it's 22,000lbs; the GVW of the truck but I can't find the info right now.

Hey Ryan,
My truck does the same thing every now and again. I will put it in park and when I take my foot off the brake, the truck will lunge. Sometimes it lunges forward sometimes back. My truck started doing it after the dealer worked on the tranny to fix the drainback problem and reflashed the TCM. I am still under warranty and probably going to take it in to get it checked out. I'll let you know what I find out.Edited by: armsdmax
