All,

Finally got my truck back from the body shop, and put another 1400 miles on it so that I could compare performance of the UMP Super Filter to the Uni. Rotella T oil at approx 3300 miles between changes shows silicon readings of 20 with the Uni, and 8 with the UMP Super Filter. This is what I'd hoped for!!!!

But if you base your results on a comparison of the two, 1 of which is horrible, you may still have a bad filter.

Test it against a napa gold paper.

I don't know why filtering air is such a problem in these trucks.

I have a Big truck with a 550hp Cat engine that has about 265,000 miles now, all of it instate local driving and in some dusty conditions at construction job sites, and every oil change I do at 10,000 miles my oil anylysis results come back with 0, or 1, tops ppm results for Silicon in the oil.

And the truck has Donaldson paper air filters that I change once a year after about 30 to 40,000 miles.

So why cant they make a filter that does what it's supposed to for our little trucks.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I had an oil analysis done at 68,000km the silicon was 32 the report stated that the silicon was other than dirt, the report suggested that it was probably contamination from gasket materials, it is possible because the engine had been worked on, then I had the oil changed.

I had the oil tested to see if there was any water (antifreeze) in the oil. , just incase the mechanic screwed up.

Have to have the oil tested at 3,000km as a follow up.

I think I have read silicone gasket material is used on the DAMX oil pan and other parts and it leaches silicone into the oil. So other thatn dirt would probably be because of this.

You can run a donaldson filter in your truck, they just don't make one to fit the OEM air-box. This is where UMP comes in, They use Donaldson air filters in their superfilter air-boxes. I've got over 20K on the donaldson I have in now and it still looks goodhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

You guys are killing me with the dump pics, I've been wanting to get a rig for a long time, now i need onehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

Now if you repeat this test at next service, and then go back to the Uni and the silicon goes up, you'll know something.

Mine repeats at single digits with the Uni NOW, but it took a long time for my silicon to decline.

Interesting--I had somewhat opposite result--comparing UNI to OEM paper.

My readings where 22, 22, 16 and then 28ppm. I had UNI on for the first three--miles where around 5k when I started the analysis.

After reading about UNI issues I put the stock paper filter back in. That was the 28ppm reading.

The initial high numbers did not bother me because--after reading in the forum--of need to change the oil to flush it out. But the OEM paper reading really suprised me.

Well--I thought I'd give the AMSOIL filter a try: Back to 16ppm.

The last reading--was 2500 miles in MEXICO--including some offroading--all on UNI: 9ppm. Truck has around 19k miles.

I am going to see if I can repeat the single digit number with UNI. This will be mainly crappy Los Angeles air.
