: First or second for burnsouts?

I have a 90 hp Juice, decided to do a little brake stand burnout the other night after an employee from South Africa said he didn't understand how this works. I felt it was my job to educate this poor sole and proceded to do a burnout in low 1 for about 25 feet and then shifted it manually into second and to my surprise it broke the tires lose again and laid down another 15 feet of rubber. Should I have left it in low 2 and got it going in and let it shift doing the brake stand and let it fly? By the way, I didn't order posi rear end but the darn thing laid down dual strips right up to second gear and then favored the right wheel alittle more. I suppose the clutch plates are alittle pissed at this point.

Topgas,

When I am heating the slicks I always do the burnout in 2ND gear to control the spin and rpm. It is really easy to get the truck to go all the way to 5th gear with the water box so I do that to avoid some wild upshifts and downshifts. The slicks can also bite all of a sudden and really shock the drivetrain so you gotta be cautious.

When I am frying street tires for fun then I just leave it in drive since the street tires don't hook for anything anyway and I am not too worried about damaging anything. 150ft strips are cool if you got the room to make them!

All right Harley99, what hp Juice were you running? I didn't see any shifting blank spots so I assume you had it pinned in 2nd while doing your brake stand. I went back and measure my marks, I guess I burned more than I thought, a little over a hundred feet, feable compared to yours Harley99.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifWell thanks guys for the accolades, one does what one can.

Back in the old days there were those of us who felt that it was our duty to hunt down and kill the dreaded Nauga's. Once dead we would then skin their soft underbelly from them for sale to the upholsterer's for custom interiors. Now in the 21st Century Naugahyde is no longer in great demand.

So we have moved on to helping out our local Municipalities or State by laying down a thin layer of rubber in private parking lots, City streets or State roads as a resurfacing effort.

I had my Attitude set on level 3 (75 hp) and started out in 1st gear. You can see when I hit 2nd after about 18 inches that the truck did a small power drift and continued on. At the end on the heavy black marks it shifted into 3rd with less rubber being layed down but still spinning with a lighter black mark until I let off at right about 186 foot mark.

Glad you enjoyed my resurfacing effortshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

The transmission will default to third gear and you will have no reverse and a MIL light will illuminate in the IC.

No a Dually stock will not lay a patch.

Norcal, think you could beat 700'.......my Topgas bike (basically a prostock dragbike) and I got frisky one night at a local exibition dragrace. I started my burnout, let the brake off, started rolling with it and thought to myself what the hell I've always wanted to do this. I backed out of it past the 1/8 mark and was totally enveloped in smoke when I stopped. The fans went nuts, and so did my clutch. My crew was pissed after pushing the bike an 1/8 backwards to the starting line and watching me fight to get the bike in first gear. How my ponnies in your rig, looks nice. I don;t know if any of us would have a chance against Harley99, I think he's running nitro and is holding out on us...

No nitro, just a good running DMax with juice set on level 3 and MBRP exhaust. Rest of truck is stock, and I think anybody can lay a patch that long if you really want tohttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
