I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I would assume so because I believe these all would be the same generation as the LB7s, although completely different RPO codes.

Has anyone ever experimented with putting the Duramax 7.8 in a pickup truck? It seems like an engine that could be tuned to be much more powerfull than any 6.6L V8....

Here're the specs from GM; inline-6, 7.8L, they put them in the chevy T8500's... 300HP/860Ft-Lbs STOCK.

I don't think the 7.8 would even fit. Have you ever seen one in person? It's an inline and a very hefty one at that. The 6.6 has much more potential. Just my .02

ive seen a few, they ARE pretty large. i know they wouldnt bolt right in, and i'd imagine that lots of bodywork would be required... might be able to get by with a 4 or 5" cowl hood and a LOT of front clip work... cant be too much worse than retrofitting a duramax into a '69 camero, which i HAVE seen done...

in terms of potential, i was thinking that the 7.8 could handle a lot of the same style or theory of modifications that're being made to the 5.9 cummins's, none of the parts would be the same, but the similarity in block and configuration would favor mechanical upgrades as opposed to the electronics modifications done on the duramaxes.

i know its most likely the duramax has more potential mostly because of the huge degree of parameters offfered by tuning with EFIlive and such, but at the same time the 7.8 seems like it sure could handle a lot of power...
