: Bags or springs?

OK guys,

I'm up in the air on deciding how to best help with the suspension of my new Durmax 2500HD when pulling my 5th wheel. I have a 2 inch sag on the empty trailer with off the dealer's lot and it weighs 10,000 lbs as is. I have no idea what the pinweight is on the stock RV but I was under the impression that the 2500HD would not sag as much.
So, the question is how best do I make sure I'm level when pulling? Certainly as my wife fills the trailers I'll sag even more, maybe to a point where my headlights look like high beams because of the angle.
I've looked at both options - springs are less expensive than airbags but my ride when not pulling will be like my axel was welded to the frame. I'm seeking options and suggestions.

Have you looked into Timbrens at all? They are a great alternative to air bags, especially since they're cheaper, 150x easier to install, and are maintenance free. They also don't really affect the ride/ride height at all when there is no load on them.

Timbrens ride rough when empty i'm changing mine for air bags. They work good when pulling 12,000 lb. 5th wheel. But way too rough empty.

Firestone Ride-Rite Bags with compressor, tank and in-cab controls. Complete adjustability for loaded or empty driving and you will have an air source for filling up those tires on the trailer or truck out in the middle of BFE or running an impact gun. Go airbags and never look back.:grd:

Ive got a set of Firestone Ride Rites......Shoulda had these on a long time ago. Levels the truck out to where it needs to be and still rides like factory when empty.

Firestone Air bags the best thing I have done to my truck. In cab controller is worth the $'s IMHO

Go with bags!! I run firestone ride rites and wouldn't change for anything. I also pull a trailer and it doesn't sag at all because the airbags hold the back up!! Good luck.

I wish there was a way to get airbags on the front suspension. That would be nice!

Firestone Ride-rite...For sure.. Some of the best money you wll spend.. With the in cab adjustiblity i can change the psi on the fly for the change in road condition. The only bad side is, that i sometimes forget im pulling 10k lbs.

Airbags. No point having a crappy unloaded ride when you can avoid it.

Yamsi401,
My Keystone Raptor weighs a little more than yours.I have AirRide bags on my truck.
Pump um up to about 60lbs and tow away.I dont have the compressor and just fill um up with shop air.

Take a look at super springs. I just changed from timbrens to the super springs and what a difference. My fifth wheel tows better than ever and the stability from rear wheel hop when empty has really improved. Also ride empty is like it was when new.
