I see a lot of guys using additives on here. Why?
I used a anti-gel additive once when it was -25 for a few days but I never have again. Now this winter my truck has to sit outside, because i moved and don't have the garage built yet so what is your opinions?

The main reason I use Howes Lubricator is for lubricity year round, for anti-gelling when cold. Also,a cetane booster,anti-fungal agent, water problems, etc.Need the lubricity now more than ever with ULSD upon us.Sure, your truck will run fine without it for a long time, but I assimulate it to my line of work-septic systems.Old timers don't believe me when I tell them tanks need to be pumped every 2-3 years. So they won't and then 15 years later say they'll call me Christmas day and tell me "Uh,I have a problem Wayne,I have 20 people over the house and nothing is draining and all around the outside of the house stinks and it's embarrassing".Same basic thing as using/not using conditioner.Sorry for ranting-I get anal about my work.:muahaha:

Older diesels need the added lubricity for the life of the injection system. Newer diesels have been designed to run on the lower sulphur fuel. Besides why not use something that can only help not hurt (as long as you use a quality additive in the right amounts that is).

The newr diesels with tighter tolerances actually require better lubrication that ever. The ULSD as stated in many other threads must have lubricity added at the terminal or distribtor. I don't trust that they put in enough so I always add some. This time of year I also make sure it has the proper anti gel too.

Haven't heard much about seafoam. Any one bee using it on a high mileage engine? Anyone seen the injectors or cylinder walls to say if it seems to have made a difference? I've seem the results of Power Service and Power Kleen first hand and was quite impressed.

Well, used ULSD for something else today---as a lubricating agent for my dump truck, tools, and tamper on a small blacktop job.It did'nt do the job and now the floor of my truck has 2' thick of cold blacktop,my tools now weigh triple their weight, the job came out a mess, customer won't pay--all because of no lubricity in the damn fuel--this crap really sucks--should have added additive myself, but who would have known?Won't even make blacktop not stick?Unbelievable.
NOT:joke:

You can buy a pure lubricity additive if you don't need the other additives. Sounds like you have a real nice mess. Good luck!

I personally use Stanadyne, but stay away from anything with alcohol in it. The alcohol is definitely bad for the injection system.
