A friend has a '91 I think and he said its idleing at 1000rpm. Back in the spring he took the IP off, could he have left something loose or what could be the problem?
:help:

'Splain me that "took the IP off" thing - what was that all about?

Might have 'im check the fast-idle solenoid - pull the green wire connector, with engine running, see if idle drops.

If not, check the plunger for free-travel when unplugged or
Ign Off, or\and check the mechanical throttle adjustment

It wouldnt start so he took the IP off and dropped it off at a shop somewhere and they fixed the probelm and he put it back on. I dont know much else about it.

Best answer - so, have him check the fast-idle system and adjustments, then post back.

Or, have him sign on, here

Driver's-side IP, where the accelerator cable meets the throttle arm - the fast-idle solenoid has a brass thrust rod with a hex head to adjust fast-idle rpm.

The brass hex pushes the throttle arm open any time fast idle is demanded - cold engine, or air conditioner is on.

The green fast-idle wire connects to a tab on that solenoid, supplies +12v when engine coolant temp is below ~80deg F

Same wire is connected to a tab on the passenger-side of the IP - that's the Housing Pressure Cold Advance solenoid, situated internally.

Same wire heads down along the intake manifold to the rear of the passenger-side head, back of #8 exhaust port, to the two-wire connector on the HPCA\Cold Advance thermal switch.

Orange wire is switched +12v power, other wire is our old familiar friend, the green one from the solenoids.

The thermal switch is closed below 80deg, supplying power, open above 80deg, not supplying power.
