: Mileage tips???????????????
dwrat 11-04-2006, 09:47 PM OK, I now have about 5,500 mile on my new LBZ and the mileage really sucks. I never saw an increase on my old LLY which was traded off at about 22,000 miles.
I would like to know if any tuners out there are really helping out at all.
The best thing I have found is keeping it under 65 mph, but at that speed I am losing daylight.

Installed Hypertec 111 programer and it brought up the milage on mine at least 2 miles per gallon if not more. Plus gave better throttle response and more Hp. Am very happy with milage increase because my dually sucked on gas milage. Just went 212 miles in mountains and some stop and go and got 17.82 mi. per gal. hand calk. Most the members that have posted on here that have intalled tuners or programers have had milage increases. Hope this helps. If you look in the tuner section of this forum you will find allot of info.

rknrollo 11-05-2006, 09:01 PM Mines at 5500 as well and the hypertech 3 increased the economy quite a bit especially in the city, the best way to get better mileage is a light foot. I have to say the hypertech made the power come on much more with less throttle around town, I actually for the first time hit 20+ mpg's on the fwy between 60-65 and now at 80 I get as good as I did at 70, about 16.5-17.5. I'm on level 1 and I have been driving as hard or harder than I did before the hypertech 3 because its so much fun and it seems like even floored it uses less fuel than before. A mild tune and an exhaust will help economy. The hypertech can be had for under 300.00.
ONEBATK 11-05-2006, 09:46 PM i have the bully dog ( triple dog pup ) my mileage went up 3-4 mpg i love it :grd:
I keep my DIC set to "MPG" so I can understand how my driving effects fuel economy. Dont' let it get you down though. If you need to punch it or get on it a little, just re-set the DIC and start driving easy again.
hemisareslow 11-06-2006, 12:03 AM when you put your shoes on....make sure the one on the right foot...is lighter than the one on the left foot....makes for waaay better mileage....
demarcjp 11-06-2006, 01:14 PM Drive it like you stole it, tow a heavy load, check tire pressures, and then fill up with LSD and do a hand calc. New my LBZ got 13 first tank, 13.5 second tank... so I beat on it a bit, and did some towing (seat the rings!). By 500 miles I was ave 16, at 4000 miles I am averaging 17. Took it on a road trip this past weekend and got 20.5 on the highway!!
Thats 100% stock!! can't wait to get a programmer.
BTW I know most have not seen a big dif between ULSD vs. LSD, but I still search for the LSD for lubrication purposes!
abfitch1212 11-08-2006, 02:47 PM No idea how to figure out my mpg with my 285-75-16 toyo tires. I think ai have to add 7 percent to the miles i drove but not sure. can someone please tell me how to figure out MPG. also what programmer will fix this problem

You would multiply your trip odometer reading by 1.07.
Then divide that number by how many gallons you put in the tank.
Be sure to fill your tank consistently.

Borrow somebodies GPS and take a long drive and compare the GPS miles to your odometer. My 285/60 18 tires did not affect the odometer enough to bother. Every 50 miles odometer I actually travel 51 miles according to the GPS.
Plus my fuel mileage is the same with stock tires compared to the Nitto 285's I'm running.
tettruck 11-09-2006, 01:53 AM easiest thing to do is don't calculate it...just drive it and love it :ro). If you need something a little more solid than that, think about the average 1/2 ton gasser truck getting around 16 mpg, and then the average duramax getting around 16 mpg (conservatively). The 1/2 tonner prolly weighs only 4800# and the duramax weighs around 7000# or more. Now, your duramax is WAY more efficient a machine than those smaller gassers...

AND IF YOU WANT TO FEEL EVEN BETTER ABOUT IT...HOOK A TRL TO THE GASSER AND SEE HOW IT DOES..
SoCalDuramax 11-09-2006, 05:10 AM Just installed the PPE Xcellerator and now im getting an extra 2 - 3 mpg.
gliderrider 11-09-2006, 10:23 AM Installed the Predator at its lowest setting and got an increase of 0.48 miles/US gal (3.8l) city-hwy combined & DIC calculated. I don't have 5k miles on the truck yet.
Sure would like to get the 2 to 3 everyone else seems to get. I was reading about the fuel cooling system that is supposed to get a 2 to 4 mpg improvement.
Maybe if i install all the tweaks i'll end up having to take fuel OUT of the tank.
