: Camper for my Dmax
Kaching 07-10-2004, 09:08 AM Greetings,
I,m trying to decide if I should trade my TT(10k holiday Rambler) for a Lance Camper. My question is:
1.What is the mileage experience? (I know there are a lot of variables)
Thanks in advance for your guidence.
Super Diesel 07-10-2004, 11:09 AM Depends what speed your gana do. I get about 12.5 to 13 with mine, which is a 4000lbs 10 foot floor model with the slide. But I'll only be doing about 65 to 70 or so. The worst I have seen is going through Wyoming with a head wind with the camper on and towing my 6000 lbs boat doing about 80-85http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif was about 9.5.
NWDmax 07-11-2004, 10:21 PM Kaching,
I have the Lance model 820 on my Duramax and I typically get from 10.5 to 12.4 mpg and thats with the 3000lb bass boat in tow.The difference in mileage from trip to trip is mainly due to the wind or how fast I'm trying to get there.I feel airbags and swaybars are a must imho. This combo drives like a dream.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Super Diesel 07-11-2004, 10:45 PM Make sure you have the adjustable Ranchos as well. World of difference when cornering.
Gruber 07-12-2004, 07:20 PM Kaching,
I have a 2004 3500 dually 4X4 LB7. I put a 1121 Lance on it. It's a 2001 with a slide out dinnette. I paid $15000 for it last year used. I went from a motorhome to a camper and it took some adjustment. At first I wondered if I made the right choice but after using it several times I'm very pleased. Mainly because I have an awesome truck to drive around for other purposes. I highly reccommend a slide out. It makes all the difference in the world. Milage: Around 12mpg at 70 to 75. I wouldn't mess around with a 2500HD unless you want a smaller camper. This is my third dually and I really didn't want another but you need the extra tires for the bigger camper's weight. As it is I'm going around 11,600 lbs with the camper, girlfriend, and gear. Throw on the boat's tongue wt and... well I'm over GVW anyway. Airbags are a neccessity. My truck does handle like a dream with the weight and it pulls most hills at 70 to 75 except the Cuesta Grade on the way to Paso Robles, Ca. That sucker kills me best I can do towing the boat and trailer (3500lbs) is 53mph and thats with a run at it...Good Luck............Gruberhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif
NWDmax 07-12-2004, 08:10 PM I agree with Super Diesel on the Rancho's.
I put the adj 9000x's on and they complete my towing package as well as making for a nice ride when empty.
What Duramax do you have?
Once I can swing it I'll keep my present truck and buy the dually and put on the big Lance Max or the 1121 slide. At that point they'll be together semi permanently.
Nice rig you got there Gruber!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Kaching 07-13-2004, 08:06 PM Thanks for all your comments.
I have a HD2500 CC short bed. With Hot Juice, 4inch exhaust & intake air treatment. I can pull my TT 70mph without any trouble up most hills. I do have to watch the EGTs
NWDmax 07-13-2004, 10:42 PM Thats the same mods I have and it sure does pull with authority!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
Let us know what you end up doing.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

6.6 Flylow 09-10-2004, 01:58 PM Currently we have a S&S 8.5 which by the id tag weighs 2585lbs and are running Firestone bags, looking at 9000's for my next mod. Also pulling a 8x10 trailer with 3 ATV'S, the Dmax plays with this load. Getting between 13.7-15 MPG.
Crawler Hauler 09-10-2004, 04:55 PM My camper drops my mileage exactly 2MPG and it's a pop up Northstar. I attribute all the mileage loss to wind resistance because I've hauled 2000 lbs in the bed for long distances and it hardly touched my MPG. With the camper and toys in tow I'm 17,300 LBS and get 12.4 consistantly. I havn't done a trip with just the camper long enough to get acurate mileage without the toys behind it.
wsucowboy 09-10-2004, 07:17 PM I have an Artic Fox 860 with the full wall slide-out, I am probably sittin around 11000 lbs. goin down the road, got airbags and thats about it. I love Rs9000's but ya just cant beat the ride of the bilsteins. I get about 12-13mpg depending on where I drive, worst tank was like 9mpg but i deserved it goin up the Vantage grade @75 mph!! these trucks rock!!!
56Nomad 09-10-2004, 07:38 PM I've had Lance campers on both 3/4 trucks and dually trucks.
I would never again put any full size camper on a 3/4 ton truck because
of safety reasons and control.
Also, my mileage with the Lance and now pulling a 10,000 pound
toybox is the same 11 to 12 mph

wsucowboy 09-10-2004, 08:05 PM what do you consider a full size camper? My 2500 handles my camper perfectly, no problems at all and my truck is lifted 6 inches. stability has never been a problem. JMHO!! -Jeff
56Nomad 09-10-2004, 08:21 PM When we had the Lance and the 3/4 ton Chevy..... we always
were a few pounds over the max load. We could not bring all
the stuff we wanted to pack. We never had to worry
about that with the 3500.
I would not want to have a catastrophic rear tire failure with a camper on my truck. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif
