What is it, were is it, how does it work and how can you control it? Isn't an exhaust brake a restriction, some one please clear this up for me. is this some cheesy deal that is going to cause problems in the future? I can picture this thing sticking on and robbing power.

There is no exhaust brake on a Duramax in a pick-up. There are vanes in the turbo that control it's speed and help with the elevated idle (cold warm up) feature. Your truck has grade braking that uses the engine to help slow you down on a grade (with tow haul on) but it is just engine compression doing it, same as taking any vehicle and dropping a gear on a downhill.

If anyone tells you your truck came with an "exhaust brake" from GM is pullin your leg or doesn't know what they are talking about.

i know it dosen't have an exhaust brake. The book keeps refering to a "exhaust restrictor" that "restricts the exhaust gas flow" i picture some flap of some kind or something. you believe the variable "geometry" turbo is the sourch of the restriction? so what does variable geometry really mean? is there a web site i could learn more about the turbo in my lbz?

Look up VVT on the web and you can read till your eyes hurt. Yes, the vanes on the turbo will restrict air and help slow things down, this is in essence grade braking but without the actual exhaust brake per se'...

You will HAVE to do some reading, no one is just going to come out and tell you what you want to hear so that you do not have to search for it. When you read it you will learn and then you can better understand what is being talked about.
