Here's the context: I've got a 2004.5 Silverado CC with the factory in-dash 6-disc changer. I opted for the overhead DVD player but the dealer offered to hook me up with a bigger screen unit, which they have installed down the street. The picture is great but they used an RF modulator to hook it into the factory sound system and kiddies' DVDs sound like crap when we are driving.

I have a harness from JP Customs, which promises to cure my woes allowing me to hook up the DVD player to a couple of auxiliary outputs and then having the outputs interface with the factory radio and the steering wheel controls.

It seems I regret it every time I have someone do some work for me. I guess I deserve it for being too lazy or too busy to take care of business myself. I refuse to take this back to the dealer and point out that the system as installed is sub-par quality (I've already had words with them about other things.). And I do not care to deal with an installer who should know better than to use an RF modulator.

So I want to do it myself: I will need to drop the headliner to see what I have up there and then trace the wires, I assume to the factory radio system, remove the cursed RF modulator and install the harness. I need help on dropping the headliner. It looks obvious, but I hesitate to remove all of those plastic pillar covers. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Question.gifIs that what I must do and does the headliner just pop into place? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Question.gifAnd the dash, anybody have any experience in getting at the factory radio?

Any help would be appreciated, please......http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Don't think you need to drop the whole headliner. Just remove the overhead console and snap off the right pillar cover. You can fish a wire from the center console area over and down the pillar pretty easily. I run my CD and Ham radio and SmarTire monitoring wires this way. For the pillar covers, just start at the top and pull straight out, hard.

<DIV>Thanks for the response.</DIV>

<DIV>I HOPE I do not have to drop the headliner all the way down, but since the installer used an RF modulator I will not be surprised if I find other things to be disappointed in when I take a look. I will tilt the headliner down as you suggest.</DIV>

<DIV>This might be a good opportunity to install a Dynamat in the roof if it turns out I have to drop the headliner and fix more screw-ups. The DVD player is a fairly big unit with a 10-inch screen....we'll see...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif</DIV>
