I want to install a indash GPS and can't decide between the AVIC-Z1 and the Eclipse. I would like to here from anyone that has one of these. I have not found anyone with a wire harness for my truck, does anyone know if a harness is made for my truck that will fit the AVIC-Z1 or the eclipse?

Lwalston, we have the Garmin Street pilot 2720, we use it in other trucks. We also use one of the Lap Tops to while we are mobile. DW also prints out our directions on paper for our trips. She has out print out from Tennessee to Mission Texas. She just hands me a print each time we move. And we didn't want to spend the extra dollars, also if you trade Trucks it would not be easy to take the in- dash out. As for the wireing I don't have a clue. You might check with some of the installers. I really don't have no idea what a AVIC-Z1 or Eclipse is. Good Luck....GBY....

When I bought my Kodiak it had the Eclipse installed. Its a nice unit, like how it works. Has a good sound to it and is easy to navigate the menus, change sources etc. Honestly I would have purchased the AVIC-Z1 if my Kodiak had not had the Eclipse installed. I really like the Nav on the Z1 and it has a great feel to it. My best advice is to visit an audio shop or two and play with the units to see which one you prefer. A great feature on the Z1 is the standard plug for the back-up camera. The Eclipse has an special harness so if you want to have more then one camera, ie on the trailer and the truck, to switch back and forth you'll need to make a harness adapter to standard video plug, buy a switcher and then convert back where as the Pioneer is just plug and play for that type of situation. Which Eclipse were you looking at? I do like the one with the built in hard drive, this allows you to load your destination into the HU and then watch a DVD at the same time, the other units share the DVD drive so its one or other unless you add a secondary DVD player.
As for the adapter harness, there is one out there, mine had one installed in it. You'll also need an adapter for ignition switched and the chime, trust me if it was just chime I wouldn't bother as all that does is drive me crazy but GM wired the switched ignition thru it so the adapter is needed, made by Periferal, don't have the part number but I'm sure someone will post it or do a quick search for it. The other wire you'll need to make the nav work is the VSS, vehcile Speed Sensor wire which you can located by viewing the schematic, its easy to get to behind the cluster, I know Tach is white, I don't remember what color VSS is off the top of my head.
