Hey all. Heres the info.... 2002 D/A with 76,000 KMS on it. All stock except for exhaust. Was driving around the city running errands and noitced the trans temp was running hotter than usual. The outside temp here today is about 70 . The trans temp was almost as high as if I was towing our trailer in 85 weather. Checked trans dip stick when I got home. Fluid full (at hot reading) and seems to still be a red colour. However the smell I thought was off. Nothing very strong, but enough to make my blood presure go up (been out of work since the middle of November, can't afford this now)
I changed the filter and fluid at about 67,000 KMS. Put Transynd in. I only drained what came out of the pan (not quite two jugs worth when re-filling) So there is still factory oil in it.
I don't drive the truck hard, however...... when towing I do put my foot down to get into the flow of traffic. I have also passed on two lane roads. The trailer is a high profile fifth wheel, that weighs maybe 8000 LBSish loaded.
I have had the thought that fifth gear may be slipping. Only once on trip to Indianna I noticed a slight variation in RPM. Didn't happen again, so dismissed it (was towing at time)
Hopefully reading too many horror stories and I am just paranoid. Don't know a good trustworthy tansmission shop around here either. Any thoughts?

Hi Mac. No performance enhancements. I do have a 4" exhaust. Out side temp was right around 70F. I have had the trans temp run cooler, on hotter days. Can't say how comprable the driving conditions would have been (city, lots of shifting)

Transmission temp .... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

If it was around 200 degrees with plenty of up and down shifts with converter unlocked it is normal ....

Since we live in the same area and temps, mine runs about 95 this time of year, same temp as when i plow in the winter. Normal spring and fall and winter temps are ussually 80-85. I have never had my temps above 95 even at the strip, or towing.

As for the off smell, probably just the Transynd, as it has a different odour than Dexron, well at least it does to my sniffer. If you develop a problem, i can recommend a local tranny guy that does great work.

Hey guys. Mine will run up to 95C (200Fish)when towing. The temp was close to 95 (maybe 90ish)
The smell could be the Transynd mixed in. I'm worried a little because I can't afford this now. The trans shop I would be interested in (BR uses this guy?) That will definitly be down the road though.
