: Plugging hole in bed and spraying over hitch rails?

I bought an 03 GMC 2500HD earlier this summer. We also bought a new Wildcat fifth wheel. I had a Reese hitch installed in my new (used) truck. The previous owner hauled horses and had a long plate gooseneck hitch in the bed. The exterior of the truck is in great shape, however, the bed is pretty scratched up and well used. In addition, there are four nickel to quarter sized holes where the gooseneck hitch was removed (they couldn't use same holes for fifth wheel hitch).

So I want to get my bed sprayed. I have two questions.

First, what do I do about those holes? Should I just leave them? I'm worried about water pouring through into the under carriage of the truck adn causing rust or problem. Plus it doesn't look great. Anything I can do about that?

Second, my hitch is removeable for the winter, but the rails remain, they're bolted to the frame. When I get my bed sprayed would they just spray over the rails? I'm wondeing if that can cause condensation/rust issues if water gets trapped inside rails where spray didn't reach. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

With mine they taped off the rails and sprayed around them. They told me to leave them in as they need to be flat on the bed noyhing in between.

My last truck I removed the rails to have the bed sprayed and then put the rails back in. I didn't have any problems this way and the bed was completely sealed by the linex.

i would place some carriage bolts in the holes and tighten the nut underneath the truck, then spray over. as far as the rails go, it does not matter if you spray underneath them, as long as they are bolted down, they will be fine.
