Go Fish

Hi Everybody-
I'm a first time diesel owner, it's an '04 LLY/Allison in a Crew Cab. As a life long Chevy owner all I have to say is "holy crap this is a nice truck!" I use the new rig to pull my boat and get to good fishing, hunting and camping spots.
I had a computer mishap recently that I though everybody might be interested in.
I was pulling my boat and the engine bogged down terribly, the engine light came on and I started crapping my pants. It sounded like a really loud old diesel and I couldn't get any pull out of her. I was sure something very bad had happened. I limped the truck and boat to where I work and tried to back the boat into a parking spot - I had no reverse, the driver information center said "SHIFT RANGE INHIBITED" My buddy and I unhooked the boat, got the truck out of the way and shut her down to wait for a tow. After about 1/2 an hour I started the truck back up and she sounded fine. A couple of laps around the parking lot and getting reverse back convinced me that everything was going to be OK. I ended up driving the truck home.
Next day I dropped her off at the dealer for a check-up. The codes pulled indicated a misfire that led to the Duramax and Allison defaulting to a sort of "safe mode". Engine power is reduced by the computer and the Allison computer locks the torque converter up in 2nd. I guess the thinking is better safe than sorry.
The techs at my dealer called the mother ship who told them to check a few grounds and if that didn't solve it, replace the injector control module. I got a new module.
I back on the road, no worse for the wear and a little bit more informed. I've got to plug my dealer- they were great. Durand Chevrolet in Hudson, MA took my truck right away, set me up with a Silverado xcab for a loaner, and turned my job over in 1 day. On top of that I was treated with respect when I asked all sorts of idiot newbie questions. They deserve all the business they can get.
