: Service Throttle Light - what gives?

Hello all!

Very impressive site here. Here’s the problem: Have a 98 2500HD 6.5td., with a Service Throttle Light. It all started on a trip towing a pop-up camper and bed full of stuff up the hills of PA. Service engine light came on, found turbo inoperative. Vacuum leak to actuator, but at the same time the Service throttle light came on and cruise died. So, after tinkering around, came up with the idea of swapping around the APP go pedal around with a good working van. In swapping it around, found no change, and the van ran fine on the other pedal control. We only swapped the black controller on the side of the pedal, not the whole pedal assembly.

After reseting the computer (pulling battery cables), the light is off, and then it may come on after startup, or it may wait until half way down the road. It fails at idle, and at mid-throttle position too, no rhyme or reason to it’s failing.

So does anyone have any thoughts as to where to start on this one? What else throws the throttle light on, on these things?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

The fuel solenoid driver.
When I replaced the driver on my dad's 96, he told me his cruise control started working again.

As much as I can't believe it and if someone had told me this before I would have told them they were crazy a similair thing happened to me. I thought my Throttle sensor was going out too, sometimes you hit the gas and it would work right, sometimes you could push it half way down before it would do anything and wouldnt reset until you let all the way off it. I also had a miss at cruising speed and a couple times she just stalled or refused to start. I changed my 3rd gen PMD for a used 2nd gen, and hasnt missed a beat since.... Dont ask me to explain it though ;) good luck.

Think it's fixed. Went through all wiring, and pulled about 6000 napkins out from the back of the glovebox, and think it might be fixed.

Just as an aside, what codes keep cruise from working? I had IP problems, and cruise died. (hi-rez and meter control) Does the Service throttle light keep off the cruise too? and why?

if your IP has optic sensor problems, then you have fuel metering problems, and that means your computer can't properly maintain speed, why the STS light comes on and not the SES....I could only guess.
