: LBZ oil pressure

I just picked up my new 07 duramax and driving it home I noticed that the oil pressure only got to 45 to 50 lbs. my 01 when new was at 80 and at 94K it still was at 60 at 2000 rpms. I'm worried that this is a major problem and should take the truck back before they send the paper work to DMV and tell them to give me another truck.:help:

It is normal. My truck usually runss about 25 at idle and 60 psi going down the road. It is usually a little higher in the morning but then once it warms up it goes back down some. Nothing to worry about...

Normal, keep the truck.

Mine is low too..... I am kind of bothered by that...but we have come a long way since the old days when everybody was trying to get 70 to 80 lbs. of pressure.ie. loss of horsepower---we now have better lubricants. I have 26k on my 06 lbz and have not had a problem.

We think GM increased the oil pump's output volume, thus oil pressures have decreased. Higher volume, better cooling. Have 14000 on my `06 those values sound about right. (25/60)

enjoy the power

Increased volume with the same down-stream restriction equals increased pressure. The above statement couldn't be more off base.

I agree, if you increase output then you will increase pressure. But with the case of these motors I don't think that is true. They are just more efficient and therefore pressures are lower than most expect. No need to worry, just drive it.

My 1 week old 07 LBZ runs the same oil pressure, did it the moment I drove it off the lot. Don't worry about it, just drive it and be happy.

Correct....but maybe chevy decreased restriction? I duno? I doubt they did enough to drop the oil pressure while increasing output of the pump. They did rework the hard parts in the motor itself quite a bit. Dont realy know. Dosnt realy matter.....they decided that we could get by with less oil pressure so they must have the data to back it up as its not realy cost savings to them to put a different spring in a pump or different gears.....one could cross reference some parts and see.....

I noticed the same thing too BTW.....less presure than my 03 had. Nature of the beast.

The pressure drop happened between the LB7 and LLY. My LLY and LBZ run almost identical pressures while the LB7 ran much higher.

oops, he's right, my bad - thinking of gases (Boyles Law), not fluids.... :o:

but when I'm idling, my pressure seems to be lower, and when I am driving, it seems to go up to around 60.

I'm new to diesels, and was just wondering if this was normal. I think it is, but what do I know? That is why I search these boards!!!

It's an 07 LBZ, CC, LT3 Silverado, and I love it!!:D

my 02 had higher pressure readings too ,i thought i read gm lowered readings because owners were freaking out about too high readings, unless it stays at 0 dont worry about it

Still normal... Normal.. Normal... Normal...

I'm curious does anyone know the actual volume the pump flows or is rated for?

Must agree, I noticed the same thing. My '01 had much more pressure as evidenced by the gauge than my '06. '06 is normal when compared to other LLY's & LBZ's though. Perhaps it's just a gauge calibration or scaling issue, or maybe it really is lower, but what is important to me is that it is normal & I'm ok with that.
