Lately I have noticed a considerable wobble when braking from speed.....lets say at the end of 1/4Mi. What is this from?

Rotors warped ?? How many miles on the brakes ??

Normally it's a warped rotor.

Hmm...how did I end up posting on the LLY thread? Anyway have 41,000 mi. on brakes. A bit early for rotor problems?

I dunno and I'm not sure why I didn't move it ,odd ....

Any hoo whether or not your rotors are warped will depend on your driving habits, towing and descending grades with braking needs ...

I'd look and see condition of brake pads ... Any peddle pulsing ??

Not if you have been hard on them. I have seen warped rotors on new vehicals. They do not put the amount of metal in them they used to and the can warp if they get too hot too quickly. If you have a that you have been running on the strip and brake too hard too quickly at end of run you can warp them after a few back to back runs. Oversized tires also puts extra strain and heat on rotors as well. Do not bother turning them and it can make it worse in future as it will alter metal thickness even more (since it is warped if you turn them to true them the will be difference in the surface area thickness and be prone to warp again)

I had the same thing happen on a '98 1 ton Chevy with about the same miles. A hot Texas summer day at the hunting lease, up and down some hills and then drove through some water and that was it. Hot rotors that are cooled rapidly warped very quickly. When the brake was applied the pedal would pulse and the steering wheel would shake side to side.

The rotors had never been turned before but I had them turned after they warped. They said they couldn't be turned again without being out of spec.

You could always try and retourque your wheels. Just be anal about it.

1. Tighten all lug nuts untill snug.

2. Follow appropriate pattern and torque to 100ft/lbs.

3. Follow appropriate pattern and torque to 120ft/lbs.

4. Follow appropriate pattern and Torque to 140ft/lbs.

Sometimes this will fix what appears to be a warped rotor. I have driven out of a tire shop with the warped condition before. Performaned the retorque and all was back to normal. Damn tire store kid!

It is possible here but not likely as he has been using the brakes hard at high speeds. When it is fixed and if you continue to run at that strip and space is limited to stop try gearing down too and take as long to stop as room allows.

I will probably need the rotors turned. I noticed this when I had done a few 1/4mi. runs and was braking from 100mph....shoulda had the BD flipped on I guess. Who said anything about a track? Edited by: motovet

I have a slight wobble in the steering that is more pronounced during braking but is there all the time at certain speeds. Something in the front end.....steering stab or something......it might be a tie because it comes and goes and seems to be related to the location of a certain tire in the rotation.

I have BFG AT's and I heard that a few got loose that had balance problems. Have the brake shop check the runout on the rotors but don't just assume that is the problem. These are serious brakes and I have heard of worn out rotors but not any warped ones. You have to be REALLY working hard to get these pie plates that hot.

I'd try Bronco's idea first. I've heard a couple of cases where a wobble was corrected by proper torque and proper torque sequence.

Good Luck,
