What's the GM P/N for the fuel filter on an LLY? Is it the same as an LB7?
According to GMPD.com, the P/N for the '02 LB7 is 97256734. Will that work for the LLY?
Thanks!

the LB7 filter will work on the LLY but the LLY element is longer.

Just picked up a spare fuel filter yesterday from the stealer. The ACDelco P/N on the box says: TP1298 below that is #: 89016324
Hope that helps you.

I was told by my local Chevy parts dealer that the fuel filter part number has changed from what is listed in the 2004.5 LLY owners manual.
Manual Number: 97256734 <--Edited: Manual error, not LLY
New Number: 89016324 <--Edited: Not an LLY filter #!
GM Parts Direct shows both numbers. The filter with the new part number shows a retail price of almost 6 dollars cheaper than the old filter number.
If you are going to update your manual with the new numbers, also make the following change for the "grape juice" synthetic real end axle lubricant (SAE 75W-90).
Manual Number: 12378261
New Number: 89021677
It also has a somewhat lower suggested retail price and I believe the bottle is now a different shape. The label on the bottle is "GM Vehicle Care", The lubricant is not an ACDelco product.
Edited Follow-up (07/10/04 - AM): Based on the follow-up post from dmaxalliTech (below), I measured the length of the 89016324 filter that I bought as spare, and also the OEM filter still installed in the truck. The spare 89016324 filter is about an inch shorter than the OEM filter. So, it appears the parts guy gave me an incorrect number since the 89016324 filter is not the same as the original equipment LLY filter. I will see if I can find out the correct number(s).
Edited Follow-up (07/10/04 - PM): I spoke with a different parts guy today, and guess what, it appears the 2004.5 Duramax Diesel supplement manual (cc 12/10/03) has the wrong part number for the LLY fuel filter. Page 6-15 lists number 97256734. He said this was the filter number for the LB7. This is now a dead number, since the LB7 part number has been changed. Here are the current numbers that he gave me:
LB7 Engine 89016324 (Delco TP1298)
LLY Engine 97363539
I was unable to see one of the LLY filters and measure it. He said there has not been enough demand yet to carry it as a stock item.
Thanks Eric for the heads up.Edited by: BH in AZ

the grape juice 75-90 is still an a/c delco product. All the 8.800 group stuff (maint and fluids) is labeled as "gm vehicle care".
The above filter numbers are correct, the 9725 number is an Isuzuboxed element and the 8901 number is an A/C Delco part.
Those are for the LB7. LLY is different part no.

If 97363539 is the correct LLY P/N... then that is cool. GMPD.com lists them at $14/ea.
The WIX I ordered on Friday was $40. I think I'll just return it and roll with the GM part - especially since I doubt that the WIX filter I ordered is for the LLY (tho the parts guy says it is.)

GMPD web site's "frequently asked questions" section states that they have high shipping and handling fees because they use this to cover their overhead in addition to the shipping costs. So, you really need to look at the handling fee added to each product when evaluating the price.
The total price should still be lower than dealer retail, but not the great deal that you think you are getting when only looking at the online catalog price. Their total price usually ends up being in the ball park with many of the independent vendors participating on this site.
