Yesterday i took it to the dealer and today I get a phone call " We would like to keep your truck one more day, Hook a data recorder to it and let the guys from powertrain drive it home over night" I reply " Why have they found something" Service writer "WE think it's the fan Clutch" I'm thinking to myself WTF do you think I 'm some kind of Dumba**. So my questions is do I let them do it ? and what could they possably be looking for with a data recorded?</TD></TR>

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with the fan clutch ....


It's under warranty and you want it fixed ,what other choice do you have ??


A recorder is just that when the "symptom" occurs it will record data and store for reference purposes for diagnose purposes...


A Tech II will record and store freeze frames as others I'm sure ...

I'm a tech at a dealership, I've been there for 10 years, I've had to do this numerous times, like MAC said you can set the scan tool to take a snapshot when a code triggers or you can manually have it record the data when the problem is occuring. Just tell the advisor that you know where every flaw is on your truck,if any, and go with it. Be firm though that if anything happens to it they are responsible. Good luck
