Hey gang,

I'm having a problem with my 04 LB7 w/edge & attitude. I was wondering if anyone else has come across this. The symptom is, when starting either hot or cold, the glow plugs cycle for about 20 seconds. Turn the key and you get lots of black smoke out the tail pipe, engine runs rough, and idles at about 950 rpm. This goes on for about 20 seconds, then all is normal except for the rough idle and now the engine is in limp mode with code P0116 (ECT sensor out of range). At this time the edge unit is saying my engine temp is 417 degrees. If you clear the code, all is fine until sometime in the future when I go to start it again and it all happens again. The truck has no mods other than the edge. I removed the edge unit and took it to the dealer with the code still in place and they said they couldn't find anything wrong. I reinstalled the edge and the next time it happened I took it back to the dealer and talked directly to the shop forman who is pretty cool about aftermarket stuff. He hooked up a tech II, verified the code and checked some parameters and again couldn't find anything wrong. He contaced GM engineering an was informed about an intermitent and erronious reading of -40 degrees from the ECT sensor while reading data with a tech II, but that this is to normal and to be ignored. He didn't seem to think this was causing my problem and advised me to try to duplicate the problem without the edge unit installed. I have not been able to do that. Well, I called edge and told them my story and they stepped up without any hesitation and offered to replace my juice and attitude. It's currently in the mail and awaiting installation. I just wanted to know if anyone had come across this problem, w/ or w/o an edge unit installed.

Thanks in advance,

Chaz.

I had a similar problem, I was cruising down the highway and all of a sudden my Attitude started beeping and saying my Temp was 417 degrees. I looked at my temp gauge and it read normal. Called Edge and they said they would send me a new one. Guess it must be a bug. I havnt had any of the other problems you talked about though!! Knock on Wood!!

Good to hear about the excellent Edge customer service.
Bowtieguy; your problem almost sounds like a air/fuel heater problem. One or both not working properly.

Just a thought.

I lost my intake air heater fuse once and no smoking and nastyness for me, sounds edge related if it dosnt happen with the edge. you sure all the little pins on the harness on the edge and truck are good to go?

I had teh same 417 degree failure also just this week. Called EDGE and they are sending me a new one. I has been working fine for several months with no other mods. I thaught it was the new tank of fuel I filled up with. ( I knew diesels ran hot but 417 a little too hot for me.) Great service from EDGE so far!

I got my replacement in last week, put it in and all ran fine until this morning. On the way to work I got the 417 degrees reading on my attitude again. When I got ready to leave about 2 hours later, the glow plugs take aporx. 15-20 seconds to cycle and it surges when starting. I called edge and he said, "it can't be the edge you have a brand new box" He told me to unhook it for the day then try it again in the morning. I unhooked everything, glow plugs still take 15-20 and it still surges when it starts. It also has a rough sound under hard accelleration between 3-4 or 4-5 gear. It sounds fine up until it switches gears then gets a rough sound to it and then will quit once it changes gears. I dont know whats going on. Im frustrated!!!

Injectors? Fuel Pressure Regulator? If you are under 100K, pull the Edge and take it in.

I had the same problem.... Dealer replaced the FPRCV (fuel pressure regulator control valve?) and no more problems with surging idle...

Now I'm still having issues of overboost codes being set (p0236) and random "level indicator" idle surge. I have supported Edge along the way as they have sent me 2 replacement boxes with no hassles.... but these remaining quirks are troubling:(

UPDATE. I pulled my Edge/Attitude out completely yesterday afternoon. The symptoms I listed in my previous post continued throughout the day. I parked it last night, did not plug it in. This morning, at 0645 I got in her and she started fine, no surge, no rough idle and no noises. I took her straight to the stealership and dropped her off. They called at lunch and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. What in the HELL is going on??? Im at the Firehouse today but will pick her up first thing in the morning. Can't understand what would cause this and then it just disappear out of the blue. Any Ideas???

Can't understand what would cause this and then it just disappear out of the blue. Any Ideas???Yes, try disconnecting the attitude and see if these symptoms reoccur. Mostly LB7's I see, probably a batch problem, but worth the try, a place to start. We'll go from there.
