1) Have anyone ever seen or heard of a Allison trans or Duramax being ruined because of the use of a chip such as the Edge Juice? I am thinking about buying one but I am concerned that I might do more harm then good in the long run. I do not bag my truck nor do I use it to race with, just normal city/highway driving and towing a 9000 lb fifth wheel. I would just like a bit more passing power and hill climbing ability not that I need it but it would be nice. Any thoughts? All are welcome to reply. Thanks
2) I have installed cat back systems in gas trucks and noticed a fuel economy increase and a bottom end power loss. Since I have Cat. Convertors on my truck What is the effect of a cat back on the LLY Duramax? Will it help to lower EGT's? Will any error codes start to appear?
Since this is my First diesel I need to learn as much as I can. Thanks to all who can help me with replies.Edited by: AbsoluteGMC

I ordered an edge last week and should have it pretty soon, Im getting the attitude monitor with it and I know that the edge has some built in safety measures on it that should keep the allison safe, I think after it detects a certain amount of transmission slipage it starts to dethrottle.

I haven't heard of damage to the engine but I believe common sense makes all the difference, if you play hard and often you'll have problems. The transmission is the weakest link in the chain on our trucks when it comes to performance adders simply because they weren't designed to handle the higher torque. There are upgrades out there but they are not cheap. You can have a "race truck" for $1000.00 in upgrades but you can pay well over $3000.00 to get the power to the ground without breaking anything. I also have a 4" SS exhaust and an AFE cold air intake on mine to keep the EGT'S down. I'm sure others will give thier opinions but thats mine. I have the LB7 with the Edge, run it on level 2 with my 10,000 fifth wheel and it pulls like a locomotive http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big%20Smile.gif I just take it easy and all seems well. Good luck on whatever you decide

AbsoluteGMC,
Check the link here for exhaust info that was done as a product review on this site.

Systems are available in aluminized, T-409 and T-304 stainless in duals and single 4 inch etc. If you go with our cat back system the codes will stay away, if you add our front pipe you will probably get an EGR code, won't hurt anything just an annoying light on the dash. The cat back will get you lower EGT and some HP torque and help keep egts down with a Edge box etc.
The Edge does a really good job monitoring the trans, however if you wail on it all the time any trans is going to give up. Using good sense the Allision will get you a good long service life.
Call us if we can help you.

If you want a no-muss/no-fuss performance increase, I'd recommend the TTS tow tune. Runs like it's bone stock, just goes faster and tows harder.
