Should you use the tow/haul function with hypertech or any performance programmer for that matter?

While towing a load? While running stock? With what year truck? With what mods?

Take a minute and fill out your signature so others can see what it is you have and mods installed so others people can help you out better....

Welcome to the forum.

While towing, with the hypertech on stage 3, would you use the tow function?

I'm not that familure with hypertech....but from what I do know...I don't think you should tow on level 3....I would suggest level 2...especially if you are towing heavy...and yes...use the tow haul mode...it will allow your tranny to adjust its shift points to handle a heavier load so it doesn't kill its self...will also help with grade breaking

if you do not use tow haul mode you run the risk of doing damage to the tranny...all personal preferences aside...if you tow heavy...use it..if you are towing say an empty open snowmobile trailer...I would say it is personal preference

ya i run mine on stage 3 and my sixgun on stock and i use my tow/haul when i have a heavy load such as my tractor on a 16ft trailer but when i go to the lake with just my jet ski i don't put it in tow/haul just when you have a heavy load i have gauges so i watch my EGT's and they don't get high but just like hemisareslow said it helps with grade breaking and it puts greater line pressure for the tranny i believe

I have an 01 d-max with a Hypertech tuner with 105,000 miles. The tuner works great in all settings when empty, but when towing my 9,000 lb box on level 3 I suffer a loss of power on grades and get over boost codes. If I tow on 1 or 2 this problem is eliminated. As far as tow haul mode I go back and forth with it. While on flat roads I leave it off so the truck will stay on OD and get better mileage. With hills or head winds the truck will shift in and out of OD so I use the Tow haul mode which will limit the shifting. Tow haul will cost you some mileage due to the tranny not shifting in to OD as soon.

Hypertech is designed for safe, reliable power with towing in mind. Hypertech never generated excessive EGT's like other tuners. I've pulled about 8-9000 lbs from south Louisiana up to upstate NY, and back, twice, while on level 3. EGT's never got above 1250.

egt's wouldn't be my concern.....I would be more worried about excessive tranny slip...

T/H locks the torque convertor in the middle of 2nd gear...
Normal mode locks it in the top of 3rd...
I ran level 3 for 30,000 miles, towing 10,000 lbs. occasionally in T/H, when the transmission came apart for upgrading there were no signs of abnormal wear...Your results may vary...

I ran level 3 for about 50,000 miles and Predator for the last 2.

Like god3max, I get p0234 code, which is over boost code on level 3 and I suffer a loss of power on grades . I tow 11,000 lb fifth wheel. I am going to try level 2 on my next trip to see if I get this code.
