: Blocker Plate Installed....Pin Hole Leak

I installed my blocker plate tonight. After install I put some soup water around the flange and noticed a small leak. I would describe it as a pin hole leak. Do I need to worrk about this? I'm going to try and tighten down a little more when the bolts are worm from running but I have it pretty tight now.

What is everyone's thought?

You can't feel the leak with your hand.

Thanks,
Casey

I would try to tighten it up just a little more without stripping the bolts to see if you can get the leak to stop. Eventually it might get worse so now is a good time to try to stop it..

The bolts started to strip, I was using a 12 point socket thought. I'm going to warm up the engine tomorrow and use a 6 point to see if I can get it stopped. If not I'm going to loosen everything up and use some high temp. gasket sealer to hopefully stop it. I'm sure its a leak from a pry mark or something.

Thanks,

Casey

I wouldn't think it would get worse over time. . . I'ld think if anything it would seal-up with soot. . . seeing some of the other pictures. . .

If the surfaces are clean, you can use a little red loc-tite of the scratch is small but, you'll have to remove the blocker and put it on.

I haven't done the bloker mod myself. . . does the exhaust dead-head? RTV is good to about 1200F if I remember right???

Mine also had a leak - got back ontop of the motor and "cranked on it". No leak now.

Cranked the hell out of it and still have the Censored leak!! I think I'm going to just leave it. I'm to the point I'm affraid of snapping the bolt off. I'm going to check it out every week or so and make sure it does not get worse.

Anyone else have a leak and just leave it? It's so small it takes soap water to see it. I can't imagine chevy leak tests their stuff to this degree?

I had the same problem. I used copper gasket adhesive on the blocker plate and installed it. Tightened the nuts down tight and tested, still had a leak. Warmed engine and let set overnight. No more problems

Good Luck Jim

You might have nicked the gasket or your plate might have a slight uneven surface causing the leak. Might want to see about getting another gasket or making your own and then it might go away. Did some searching last night and a few others have had this issue and it did not seem to get worse for a few but one person did talk about a whistle that got worse. Hope it all works out for you. Good luck and keep us posted.

I noticed 2 gaskets, both where very thin metal. I left the gaskets to the firewall side. I'm thinking I might have scratched something when I tried to pry the flange apart to slip the plate in. One side (passenger side) of the plate was a real pane. The drivers side seemed to slip right down.

How to stop leak: Stop overtorquing the nuts, take the blocker off, put a new factory gasket as per the original design, retorque nuts to factory spec, no more leak.

If you soap test it, the soap will boil from the heat creating bubbles, happended to me.
