I've got a 2002 Sierra 2500HD duramax, with about 70,000 miles on it. I usually use it when pulling our 25' travel trailer. We live just east of Pittsburgh, and it's getting down to the lo 30s at night lately.

Right now, I haven't driven the truck at all for over a month. We came home from our last RV trip in mid-September, and except for one short drive (less than 20 miles total) it has been parked outdoors in the driveway since then.

We don't anticipate using it at all till we leave for Florida right after Christmas.

Is there a good way and a bad way to treat it, in these circumstances? I can certainly take it out for a spin if that's the smart thing to do. Or I could just leave it where it is. I cannot under any circumstances, however, put it in a garage.

Well you might want to put some anitgel or stabil in the tank to keep the fuel good, also might want to drive it at least once a week or let it run for about 20 mins a few times a week. No reason to let it sit if you can help it.

id add some fuel additive as GMC said and drive it 1 or 2 times a week getting it up close to operating temps. it will help your batteries as well. i dont think i would start it and let it idle, i would drive it and warm it up.

Just let it sit there.
That’s all you have to do.
It will be ready when you need it.:)

Although I don't think you'll have any problems I'd take it for a spin once a week. Just my $.02.

an engine is not an athlete' muscles, its a hunk of metal. let it sit, you'll be fine.
In fact, everytime you start your truck after its sat for ~36 hours or so, the oil has most likely drained out of the pump/passages/bearinges etc... so thats when the most damage occurs. so if you were to start it once a week for a month...your putting the engine through 5 dry starts instead of just 1.

Do put stabil of whatever in the gas...and if its a long store (3 months or so) change the oil before you start.
