I guess ive read where its happenned to some of you guys...not much fun..I did manage to pull the 4wd fuse to get her unlocked. Too bad my reputable service shop couldnt get it right the 2 times she went in with a service 4wd lite on ..http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

Well...needless to say I will be shopping for a good chevy mechanic asap..I dont think i'm going back to Banks Chevrolet in Concord nh wher i bought it.
sorry for the bitchin'..i know winners dont whine...bob
Max Power 07-06-2004, 07:52 PM Where in Canada are you now?
trapman 07-06-2004, 08:14 PM Did it change ranges while you were driving it? OUCH!
bob camire 07-06-2004, 09:29 PM yeah, the freakin thing just jumps in to4wheel lo and locks in there...wouldnt come out, had to go 12 miles up the hiway keeping her down to around 55 and finally got to a n offramp..pulled over and stated looking for a fuse to shut the 4wd system off completely...the general has torqued my *ss..later, bc
bob camire 07-06-2004, 09:32 PM Max..we were only up in northern top of vermont for the holidat weekend..came back down today..bc
hdmax 07-06-2004, 10:34 PM So much for having to be stopped or coasting 3 mph or less in neutral in order to engage 4lohttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif Hope you can get it fixed before you give up and change brands because of a piss poor dealer.
Turfmower 07-07-2004, 12:03 AM How did it get in to 4WL? Some times its a bitch to get it to go in from a stop in neutral. Wire the shifter to the seat frame so it don't move. or just disconnect the linkage from the shifter.
Max Power 07-07-2004, 12:06 AM turfmower, I'm assuming he has a push button shifter. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
Turfmower 07-07-2004, 12:13 AM They make push buttons on 2500 and 3500. thought that was only light duties and SUV.
BIGMoe 07-07-2004, 01:28 AM I sure have the push button 4X4 on my pickup. That is the only way you can get it with a center console. No room for shifter with center console. Sometimes I wish I still had the shifter. The push button shifter in the HD's do not have the automatic mode like the light duty's and SUV's do. Edited by: BIGMoe
What were your engine rpms at 65 mph in 4w low? Sounds almost impossible to me. I would think you would put a real hurtin on the driveline at the same time.

Agree! I could believe the light might come on, but if you're truly in 4low you can't exceed 10mph.
Might still have a problem with the transfer case, but more likely shifting in 4w hi from 2 hi.

It would be possible in OD in 4 low but you would probaly be doing 4500 to 5000 RPM is it realy was in low range. It would not be kind to xfer case.
bob camire 07-07-2004, 09:46 PM i noticed the rpms were at about 2200..the lite said 4wd lo but it must have been in 4w hi..who the hell knows with all these freakin bells and whistles...i ll take my old shifter anyday..
today it was a pretty serious conversation with the service director at the dealer iwhere i purchased it..going in tomorrow..for the third time...of course i let him know there was a tsb out on the encoder motor heat problem per this forum...i love how you have to do peoples jobs...he asked me what the # was and i let HIM go find it...
thanks for your interest guys, and the tech info, Bob
White Duramax 07-07-2004, 09:57 PM Dieselman, I disagree, you can go much faster in 4low. I have pulled the sled at 22mph and Im sure my wheelspeed was more than that. That was in 2nd low.

QUOTE] HUH! 10 mph? I hope you are joking! In 4 low the truck runs the same as 4 high just at a much higher rpm of course. The RPM limiter is the only thing that keeps the truck from running any faster.
Over the years I have run many trucks many times to or near red line.
I think that the truck will run 2.65 times faster in high range. So it would be impossible to run these trucks at 65 mph in low range. Not even the Stealth can give you enough rpm range.
My thought on the problem, is I do not think the truck was even in 4 wheel drive. I think there is a short somewhere that is causing the light to come on.
bob camire 07-08-2004, 08:13 PM I think she got into 4 wheel cuz fluid leaked out of the vent tube from what i can see, and it aint easy seein down there. the fluid must have been churning..
