:help: Hello all--
First a disclaimer, I am not truck/car guy and don't know a whole lot about them. Your site seems friendly so I am going to fire away. I am looking for an 05-06 chevy/gm. The problem is, I don't know what I am looking at/for mechanically?? I hope to find some advice here. Thanks

Bruce

Judging by wana max, I would guess that he wants a Dmax, why wouldn't he? :D Between 05-06, there were 3 revisions. 05 had the LLY and 06 had the LLY part 2 and the LBZ. You can research those to see what you like! :welcome: to the Place!

Sorry--Yes I want a Dmax (drove 07 Classic today :ro) I'm ruined for life)
Where there any major mechanical issues with any of those three that I would need to be aware of. Also, if I have VIN checked for all work done, what kinds of repairs would be a red flag??

the LLY part 2 and LBZ are pretty new, so they are still being "tested". LLY part 1 is what I have and have not had any problems with it. pretty much they are all good, but its really a luck of the draw... 99 good ones and one bad, you know...

Could elaborate on other differences between the 05 & 06, is the new 6sp/All a major improvement over the 5? What kind of life expectency do the diesels have?? Where is the best place to check used prices to know if I am getting ripped off (KBB, Nasdaq, Edmunds)??

Thanks

I don't know much of the details between all the motors like some other guys could, I just know that they are different and I know what I have. The 6 speed seems to be a plus with the lower rpm and manual select. Are you looking for a brand new, made to order truck, or are you looking in the used market? kbb.com and nada and edmunds may give you a ball park figure, but no one really knows if it is a good deal or bad. If you are buying used, you can bounce numbers off of the member who have recently purchased their trucks and know what the market value is. If you are buying new, there are a few guys on here that can help you get into the vehicle had a pretty good discount.

Seems like 05-06's aren't much cheeper than the 07 classics. On one hand, want to save the $$$ :) on the other don't want to have a
lemon . I would definately be interested in hearing more about discounts, esp if it put the price closer to used prices I am seeing

Most of the differences explained in general are further explained in the different forums for a specific engine.
I bought my truck and was told about this site afterwards by an individual at MBRP. After many months of reading and shopping in a way i wish i ha bought an older truck to afford all the mods i want(the list is about 4 times as long as my sig).
In retrospect I think I would look for an 04 to an 05. 04 LB7 if your gonna go crazy on power. Just my .02

I was looking at used until I found that using my supplier discount and a small down payment, I could have a truck built to MY specs and for me for about the same price as a low milage used truck. Howard_m18 can help you get a price near the employee discount, so you can send him a message about the details. You can also search GMS discounts and that should give you enough reading to learn all that you need to know... :D
