im running stock alluminium rims with 33" BFG all terrains, just wondering what kind of rims will weigh the least or give me a faster 1/4 mile. or if it really even matters. my buddy said he ran faster with a 33" tire on american racing rims than he did with stock 245's on stock rims. educate me!

it all depends on how your truck is set up for the quarter mile. theres "quick" and then theres "fast" kinda hard to explain in one post but, think of quick as a real balls to the wall launch and running hard up until about 3/4 track. youd want a smaller diameter tire to achieve this because this will lower your final drive giving you "steeper gears". in the "quick" car youll just be along for the ride aronud 3/4 track all topped out. The other end of the spectrum "fast" is a not so "quick" launch but once you start gaining speed youll keep gaining it all the way to the end. You will achieve this with a taller tire. This will give you a greater trap speed. As you can see its somewhat of a trade off. In theory, the fast car will have to catch the "quick" car by gaining ground after it has picked up speed. Again this is a really simplified explanation to your question, there are alot more variables to this then explained. all depends on how your truck is set up.

As far as rim weight. a lighter rim will always be better since you dont consume torque to turn the wheel as much as you would with a heavier wheel. is it easier to turn a door knob or to turn a truck wheel. door knob cause its got less rotational mass. I think you could find a lighter aluminum wheel from american racing or one of the big name wheel companies. just stay under 17 in and ull be alright. good luck
