Lately my dad's truck has been doing a wired thing. About a month earlier, the same thing happened but now it has come back again. The truck idles super rough, and then it shuts off. It is getting starved for fuel. The truck shut off when going in stop and go traffic sometimes or sound like it is going to shut off, so my dad steps of the park and gives it a little gas. When the truck does not start, we pop the hood, prime it with the fuel pump, and it starts right up. We changed the fuel filter last month and all the connections to the injectors were fine. we have it in the shop being check out and they still haven't found a problem.
It get even wierder, a guy with an engine from the same batch as our is having the same problem, and the diesel tech guys cannot figure it out.
:help: :help: :help: thanks soo much,
Johnny

u need to hook up a clear hose on the fuel line to see if there are air bubbles flowing through.

Similar thing happened to me... After MUCH diagnosis, turned out to be the filter head assembly. Different from your problem, I couldn't prime mine at all... I think the priming bulb went bad but they didn't have a rebuilt kit for it...
Like Boost said, you probably have an air leak in the fuel system. Keep us posted.
cheers.

Seems to me a while back, someone posted about a similar problem. It turned out to be a cracked filter head assembly that would leak air into the system. Might be something to look at.

Make sure that your filter is seating properly first of all and if not then change the o-ring and try again. If that does not work check the fuel line for leaks and work up to the filter housing. As was stated above it could be a cracked housing or some sort causing air to seep in.. Good luck

Just because fuel won't come out doesn't mean your not sucking air in. Tell us about the truck (year, miles, ECT) I too would be looking hard at the filter head assembly.

the truck is a 2005. At about 45,000 miles we got the Banks six gun tuner and exhaust. The truck now has 92,000 miles on it. It was bought in October of 2004. We truck always has clean oil in it. It never had a fuel problem before. we never run the truck over 1200 degrees ( EGT) for a few seconds. The normal running temp is 800 degrees (EGT) cruzing around. not sure about the coolant temp

Sounds like u need to replace the fuel filter housing. There's no bulletins out for this problem but I have found out by putting the fuel pressure guage on it is reading way over specs. I've had multiple customers that I have changed a fuel filter put on the guage and it reads the same. The new housing comes with a filter on it, me and other techs have wondered if there is air leaking in thru the primer button. My GM rep has been called upon every time I have this issue. So don't be surprised if it does get blown off by the dealer.

Another thing if ur dealership is ok with the banks and everything else u have u wont have to make it disappear, other wise make it.
The filter pump assembly is covered under the special diesel policy, so $100 deductible u will pay unless u have a extended warranty with $0 deduct.
The part would cost u around $600.00 if they won't replace it under warranty.
Let me know I might have a spare one lying around!
