I have a very wierd problem with my truck? When I'm driving around the truck pulls fine through first but 2,3 it kinds lags back and the RPM surge up and then it shifts soft? I have no codes or no MIL lights. I've changed fuel filters, Allison Spin On, Check Fluids, and reset the tranny fast learn, the truck is still doing it? I haven't limped my tranny in a while but this problem just started! Do I need a new tranny or is it something that I can fix?

i think im in the same boat, i wonder if my bigger tires (37 inch) had anything to do with it, it feels like a clutch slipping and its at the top of second as its about to shift into 3rd and no other gears have this problem, but only happens if im full throttle, i was about to change the tranny fluid and hope for the best, also like the other guy said how do you reset the tranny fast learn?

I am having the same problem too! It seems to shift ok when my Edge is on stock or 1, but when I turn it up it shifts terrible. It is very slow and the RPM's increase about 200 before it upshifts. I have also seen about 25% slip on the edge monitor when locked up in 5th and stepping on it at around 100 km/h on the highway. It was enough to actually here and feel the engine rev up but no "pull". Anyone have any suggestions for us guys with the soft slow "feels like shifting a standard without letting off the throttle" feel?

My 05 was doin the same thing for the last 4 weeks, i took it in for warranty and they told me I had broken springs in the valve body....low and behold after we broke it down we did find some problems in the valve body...replaced entire valve body on warranty and problem is gone.
thank you

Interesting, I think mine may be doing this.

Well I have more info now...mine just limped on an easy pass on the highway. It limped 5th and hammered down into 4th. When I pulled over and tried to move it would hardly move ahead. I tried reverse and the display said range shift inhibited. Tried park and then drive again, kind of a grinding sound in the tranny and a pretty hard driveline shock. Still no reverse. Shut down truck and restart. Everything works now. Engine light was on. I read the codes with my Flashpaq. Did a search on here and can't find a thing. Apparently they do not exist in the database.

Guess it is time to start checking into a new tranny!

sounds like your getting the 2-3 flare up.

explain?

I have noticed mine getting a slight vibration or shudder in 2nd going thru 3rd under moderate acceleration. Vibration goes away when it gets into 4th. I ran 285 tires the last 2 yrs and recently went back to a 265. Please don't tell me the clutches might be going bad?

How much did the shift sensor run you? How hard was it to replace sensor?

I have the same problem with a soft shift when I have the Edge level 2 & 3 . Is there a fix or do we just keep driving around and hope the tranny re-learns? Help this is annoying to drive like this!!!

My truck flares bad on the shift to 3rd. With anything more than 50% throttle, even with edge removed. Tranny has never been limped.
It basically flares right over third and shifts to fourth. Very annoying, never mind slow.

The process to reset/quick learn the Allison tranny is simple if you have the roadway conditions:

Tranny in OD: Set to stock Tune:

Tow Haul mode OFF:

1. 1/4 Throttle - 0mph-55mph/Top Gear-Brake-0mph
2. 1/2 Throttle - 0mph-55mph/Top Gear-Brake-0mph
3. 3/4 Throttle - 0mph-55mph/Top Gear-Brake-0mph
4. Full Throttle - 0mph-55mph/Top Gear-Brake-0mph

Then go through the same sequence as above but with Tow/Haul mode ON.

Use MODERATE/FIRM brake pedal pressure from 55mph each time, as this engages/unlocks the relearn process in the TCM. That is all there is to the Allison standard relearn process. It is simple to preform, and has to be done completely in the order above once started to be effective. If not done as stated above, start the process over. This is as stated from the Allison 1000 Dealer Training Preperation Manual.
