Lots do. I highly recommend Astro start. www.astroflex.com (http://www.astroflex.com) but you will likely have a hard time finding a retailer in your area. DEI is highly recommended by some.

Make sure you find a good installer. This is very important.

I also have an AstroStart (Astroflex). I had mine installed in North Dakota, where I bought the truck. Works perfectly. About $345 installed.

I have a Compustar alarm w/ auto start. It has incredible range. I also added the temp module. It has a selectable temp setting, so that if the temp goes down to 0 it will start the truck and warm it up. It was a little on the expensive side around $600 installed, but I have had many auto starts in the past and this one is the best by far.

I have a viper 791XP remote start/security system. I got it for about 450 installed I think, i had other stuff installed with it so i might be a little bit off. It has an lcd remote with an aux button that i programmed to let my truck idle down for 3 minutes after i get out if i want to use it. Lots of security stuff with it too.

I got the viper below 3500LLY's. I press one button to fire it up.. lights blink, it waits for glow plug light to shut off then turns it over... It'll run for 24 minutes before it auto-shutdowns or I can set it to run for 24 min every 3 hours. I've got a 3 minute idle down as well that I use every time I end up stopping long enough to need to kill the engine. sounds like he got a better deal though, I paid 450$ for mine installed. Don't watch them put it in, it'll scare the heck out of you with everything they're playing with under the dash.

It's well worth it, however high speed of a system you go with. I'm pleased, only thing is that I wish they put the antenna external on the truck so it'd get better reception.

Is your antenna behind the rearview? Thats where mine is, they say its supposed to work at least a 1/4 mile away I think. Ive been able to start it from that far with nothing in the way but usually i have to be closer.

Yeah, I'd much rather have it wired up to my (take your pick) Cb, Scanner, or Radio antennae. :) Considering the way I find my truck in big parking lots is by looking for dual fiberglass whips, I figure it'd work a heck of alot better.

I recently had a remote start installed by Circuit City. The owners manual says as soon as the glow plug light on the dash goes out to start the LLY. That takes about 1 second. The remote start takes about 5-7 seconds to start the vehicle. Am I doing any damage by allowing the extra 5 second delay?

You should be able to program the time delay on the remote start. You might want to talk to the manufacturer of the system. Don't think you are doing any damage, just best to be safe.

No extra damage althought ideally it should start as soon as the light goes off. In the summer it is no big deal but in the winter I would want it to work properly. It sounds like it is not hooked up properly. Most remote starters do not use timed delays for diesels anymore. The monitor the wait to start light and when it goes off, they crank.

Trapperdave, I live in Green Bay. I had a remote starter on my gasser and I have a guy installing one on my 04 dmax sometime this month. He comes right to my house and installs for $200, $250 if you want the remote that tells you your truck is started.

Sounds like they turned on the timer for the glow plugs instead of monitoring it. That is an option on some units.

I have a Crimestopper FM2015 on both of my trucks so I only have one remote. It works great. I put them in myself as well after seening how my wife's trucks first unit was intalled. There was not anything professional about it. I paid about $160 for each of the systems plus some more for extra relays to make sure all of the aux stuff works. They didn't power all of the aux lines on my wife's truck so the A/C blower came on, but not the controller to set the temp. It would never cool down in the summer and only heated in the winter.

If you have on "professionally" installed, ask them how they attach the wires. If they don't say solder first thing, I would go somewhere else. Also, ask them if they power all of the ign and acc circuits as part of the install.
