2006 Chevy Silverado LT
6.6L Duramax Diesel
Crew Cab
Short box
Allison 6 speed Xmission
4WD

I'm new so please forgive me for posting a subject that has most likely been covered many times before.

My Duramax gets about 14 mpg in town. This is a lot of stop and go driving. Almost 18mpg on the highway (70 to 75 mph.) I live in flat land (Texas Coast). Pulling my travel trailer (24 foot, 3400 lb, Zinger) Weight does not count our goodies stored inside. I'd guess there is about 1200 lbs of goodies (not sure). I'm getting a little less than 12mpg.

Is this about what you guys are seeing?

All in all I'm very pleased. The D-Max is much better at pulling the Travel Trailer than the gas truck I had before (8mpg, on a good day).

That seems about normal... The mpg's should increase slightly as the miles add up. You can add your truck details to your signature so others can see what you are driving. :welcome: to the Place!

Welcome! Going 55-62 on the highway I can get almost 22 mpg. On the interstate we can get up to 17 and pulling our 4,000 pound camper we average 12-13. We have 13,000 miles on this engine. Got a new one at 2,400 miles due to missing glow plugs.

Your mileage will increase as you put more miles on it. Try alot of diffrent fuels to see what works best in your truck even just changing stations can make a diffrence. Have fun.

I don't understand why you waste your money on a diesel to pull such a light trailer. I would think it is not possibly needed until you get to the 9,000 +lbs.

I pull a 4'x8' utility trailer! Did I waste my money, too?

No, because you are member # 217 of the Big Butt Club. BTW, did you get your mirrors on wearing your 3500 Club t-shirt, (no sweatshirt required).

Uh no. Not only do diesels have better resale but they get better fuel mileage under all situations. And the fumes have mystical healing properties.

Hi Dave,

I get the same results. Around town is 14-15, Freeway is just under 18 at 70-75 mph and towing my beloved offshore fishing rig of 6600#, 11 mph at 55 mph. I have a stock 05 CC SB SL D/A 4X4

Because Diesels are Cool.

I have pulled the same trailer with a gasser and with a diesel. The difference is amazing. Besides that, if I get a bigger TT, I wont need to buy a truck.

I've heard this several times now on the forum and I just have to say - Who the hell actually drives that slow??? I'd sooner chew off my own arm then drive around the highways at 50mph getting passed by sedans with little clumps of blue hair sticking up just over the steering wheel... I bought a truck with an incredibly powerful Diesel engine not a sail and training wheels... Besides I live in North Jersey and I would get shot at on a weekly basis driving that slow without a traffic jam in front of me...

We love the Duramax after owning it for 3500 miles. Around town it is averaging between 12-15 and on the road it is at 18-19. Very pleased compared to my 01 gasser which was the same truch and it only got 6-8mpg in town and 12-14 highway. If the diesel mileage goes up with the more miles I put on it like everyone says then ill be very happy. DMAX was the best purchase i ever made.
