Went to go have the truck dyno'd on Friday. This was for base line and to see how after markets are doing, but the dyno was busy. Had the trucked weighed in at a public scale, 6800lbs. Hopefully will have base line results and after markets in about 2-3weeks.

I know of a couple people that have ran with the passenger side battery removed. Rear bumper, back seat, passenger seat, depends on how extreme you want to go.

I have removed my backseat to install a seat cover. Only required 4 bolts. Weighed about 75 Lbs.?

Wheels and tires make a huge difference. Slicks on light weight aluminum wheels are the ticket. Not only weight but reciprocating weight.

Try an aluminum drive shaft while you are at it.

Hood and doors if you are hard core.

Isn't the rear driveshaft already aluminum? I dont really know.

Take off the bed and remove the doors. Drill the frame with a 2" hole saw. That should do the trick!!!

I removed my tailgate and spare on my last trip to the track and I LOST traction. I had to launch with less boost and in turn had worse times. Put on the tailgate and reinstalled the spare and all was good. It seemed like it screwed up the weight transfer.

my drive shaft is metal-very rust at that

I was kind of hoping this thread would stay away from unrealistic things like the bed and doors. What about some smaller things that might eventually add up to something. I like the rear seat idea, but even that's borderline. With only 4 bolts, it might be worth it. I removed the back seat on my last car for a full year and never missed it. In fact, I really liked the extra storage space, but now I have a daughter, so it's gonna have to stay in there.

Even things weighing a pound or two are worth my time to remove if I'm never going to use them.

Amric,

The rear seat came out and went back in very easy. You can remove the spare tire gear that is behind the seat while you are at it.

I am not sure what you mean by unrealalistic but hear goes anyways. You can take off the entire exaust system and run a short straight pipe as well.

Maybe a U-PIPE since your hood will be off. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

if your going to get a tank of helium make it a big one and fill your tires with it as well!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif maybe even run as little fuel as possiable, mirriors come out with 3 nuts on both sides, dont the wipers come off fairly easy too.

Didnt you guys buy pick-up trucks for a reason? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wacko.gif

If you want something light, buy a 2500 lb car and tow it to the track with your 7200 lb truck. I am in favor of driving it hard but when you start removing items to reduce it's weight, there is something wrong.

And my wife thinks I need Therapy? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Can't you add more HP to compensate? Anything else would be pretty pointless. (I think)

Wheels and tires will make a bigger difference than chassis weight. For every pound you remove off the axle, it acts like 3 lbs off the chassis. Alcoa forged rims are ~20lb each, and if you put ET Streets on all 4 of them, you will effectively remove 400 lbs.

I'm serious. You will probably knock off 0.4 seconds with no other changes.

Where did you get the roll pan. I have not been able to find one that claims to fit the 2500HD? Also, the OEM hitch has two bolts that attach to the bumper. Does the roll pan kit come with some form of bracket to bolt the hitch to so I don't reduce the tongue weight?

I have a street scene urethane rollpan. The reece titan V hitch doesn't bolt to the bumper, it bolts to the frame only.

I also have the Street Scene roll pan on our Duramax. Removes much weight, and looks cool.

I also cut out around 16" of factory frame and replace the factory long bed with the shortbed.

I removed the leaf springs, replaced with 4 link and air bags.

Removed factory seats and power bracketry, replaces with smaller buckets and made minimal bracketry.

Replaced factory control arms with smaller tubular units.

When I removed the spare tire I also removed the big metal cross member that holds the spare in place. this was one of the biggest surprises I had........... could not beleive how heavy this piece is. Bet I lost 65-75 LBS on this alone. Only trouble is I had to cut this out as I beleive it is rivited into place on the frame. I do not plan on carrying a spare on this truck again.

removed the factory hitch

Just some of what we have tried. I hope to have this truck on the scales next week to see what it weighs.

Good luck

I'm going to look into removing the crossmember that holds the spare in place. If I can just remove the rivets, I would be able to bolt it back on if the need arose.

Anyone know what the factory wheels weight? I know the wheel/tire combined weight, but not the wheel alone. The H2 setup weights 98lbs each, and I'm thinking remove more than 80lbs of rotating/unsprung weight if I was to put 285/75R16 BFG AT/KO on instead of my current setup. The H2's would still make great winter tires.

If you remove this, let me know what it weighs.
