After 1500 miles on my new Dmax I changed the rear diff fluid today. I have to say I have never seen such nasty looking fluid. It also had and over whelming amount of crap on the magnet.
I strongly urge those that have never changed the fluid to do so.

One thing some of you guys need to remember is that unless you tow a trailer after the initial break in period, is that the gears are still going to break in for several thousand miles depending on driving conditions. Its great that you change the fluid, but you may have to do it again around 5000 miles. If you don't have a trailer, load the bed with a bunch of weight, the vehicle will run smoother and break in much better under a load, then change your fluid.

Gear oil is cheap compared to the G80. I change mine often.

I'll second that one.
Just switched both of mine over to Schaeffer's 741 75w-90.

Gents.....I also changed oil in both differentials this weekend. As Max Power says...."oil is cheap compared to the G80". The tapered plug with the rubber seal on the bottom of the pumpkin sure makes changing easy, although I was a little concerned with the way it tightened. No taper or lock of any kind. Has any one had any problems with the plug coming lose.

Give it time (many years) and it may though I have a rubber filler plug in the D60 in the rear of my 79 J20 that still is intact today.(I have not had it out for a few years though)
