: Tailgate Load rating?

Anyone know what the load rating of the standard short bed tail gate might be? I have replaced the stock braided cables with VR Straps :D . My ATV weights about 625lbs and the rear wheels will be on the tailgate, and I'm worried that this weight might be too much for the tailgate to support  .
Any thoughts?

Not sure exactly what the weight rating is but if you are only going to be putting the back tires on it. I say go with it. I have put all my trucks tailgates through hell and haven't had any problems. 300 lbs shouldn't even phase it. However I could just be the luckiest sob and will now count on my tailgate and it will fail. BRB looking for a piece of wood to knock on......

Thanks! I spoke with the dealer and they were clueless. I was worried about the Quad bouncing up & down on the tailgate. By the way, I love Douglas Adams and plan to have my tombstone inscribed:
" So Long and Thanks for all the Fish":grd:

Alright I'm back. Just make sure you tie it down good so that it won't be bouncing. Momentum sucks, well sometimes. Right on man, take it easy.

I load my camper in(8.5 feet) with my tailgate down, no problems so far. Make sure the quad is tied down well, and for added protection you could always put a sheet of plywood down first to distribute the weight.

If you're really worried, put a sheet of plywood under it to distribute the load more evenly.Damn I'm good.

I haul my 700 prairie around all the time with the rear wheels on the tailgate. Just make sure it's tied down and you should be fine.

The most I've put in my bed was a Mule...Yeah that stretched some things out a bit, but the tailgate did hold. My brother has a brute force atv and that thing loads in just fine into my truck
