I'm in need of some education on this kit. It looks to be very strong compared to the stock tie rods so my question is this. Is this a better option than the tie rod sleeves from SD? How long do the heim joints last compared to factory joints? If I get these and the Cognito Leveling Kit, and the Pitman/Idler Arm Brace Kit and later decide to go with the new Cognito 4"-6" Lift Kit, can these items still be used? Sorry for the long post.

:help:
TIA

1. Tie rod sleeves only strengthen the "rod". They don't strengthen the end of the tie rod, that connects to the knuckle/centerlink. Cognito's tie-rods strenthen the entire tie rod (the rod and the ends).

2. The heim joints are self lubricated. Should last longer than a factory tie rod (Louisiana doesn't salt their roads, right???)

3. Cognito's tie rod kit can be used with their P/I braces and lift kits.

The only deference that you will come across when you go with a Cognito kit is that you will be running the tie rod kit for stock spindle now and then need to upgrade the tie rod kit for aftermarket spindles when you lift your truck. Up grading the tie rod kit will not be hard. I think all the steering upgrades you listed will work really well together. When your ready or have any other questions feel free to call me.

Thanks

Thanks for all the input. Looking forward to doing this when I have the "change" together.

Thanks Nick. Forgot about the different heims for the factory or Cognito knuckle....

I had the Cognito tierods on my old truck (1/2 ton with their 10-12 kit) and the heims joints lasted me about 14 months. I drove 95% on the road, but we did get alot of snow/ice last winter, so that meant alot of salt.

When I replaced them, I found them locally and it cost me about $70, so still worth it IMO. As soon as I get the $$ together I will be putting them on my new truck, highly reccomend them.

I just ordered them from Nick last week. Hopefully they show up this week so that I can put them on this weekend.

Was this from cranked up T bars? I actually launched my CC 4WD dualies front end on one bad launch with N2O and bounced the front end from side to side for about 60' 2 years ago with no side effects with cranked T bars -:t (I was running my center link though). The tie rods w/sleeves survived just fine. Hard to imagine more abuse than this. However, the stock CL will pivot up and cause a much more serious angle and possibly way more damage could be done.
