: Best Exhaust
jmg343 07-03-2004, 03:00 PM So whats the best system to put on my truck on whats it cost? I want LOUD and reliable. Looks dont matter to me and I live in the land of no snow so neither are the elements. Also if anyone out there has a used system that they took off for some reason and they want to get rid of it, lets make a deal. Then again why do you want to get rid of it? Anyhow someone give me a little direction, Banks? MBRP? Flowmaster? which way do I go George, which way do I go? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif
Peanut <>< 07-03-2004, 07:19 PM I have the flowmaster 4" system on my truck. The cost was MUCH less than the other options out there and the quality of the package / system / ease of installation was great. I had it installed in under an hour with 1 helper. IMHO the dmax sounds awesome with it!!!! You certainly get some flow restrictions with the flowmaster that you would not get with a straight through muffler, but still a great improvement over stock. The turbo spools up faster and my mileage improved by a fraction on the highway....on the highway no load I get around 20.5-21 (steady at 62.5 mph on the speedo....1850 rpm) average on a tank. The full flowmaster exhaust and amsoil air filter with a swiss cheese air box are the best mods I have done to my truck. Hope this helps with your decision!
GMC2500HD 07-03-2004, 08:04 PM OH NO ANOTHER PEANUT!!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif
I have a $545 turbo back 304 4" stainless setup from jegs.com
It comes with polished muffler, 5" tip and band clamps. The pipe is on the LOUD side. May get kind of annoying on a long haul pulling a load. I dont have before and after performance or mileage numbers for you, sorry. I dont think any of the aftermarket 4" mandrel bent systems can be that different in performance. If deep loud rumble is what your after this is the pipe for you.
As others have said before, my mileage probably went down due to my foot always planted on the gas with all the new power and attention getting sound. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
Silveradogs 07-04-2004, 07:38 AM Flowmaster in Mass???? I give the sysrem 2 years tops with all the salt on the roads up there. Had one of their Aluminized systems on my old gasser, lasted 2 1/2 years before rusting out at EVERY hanger weld on the pipes.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif I said "F This" and bought a Borla Stainless system. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifStainless is the ONLY way to go! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifYou'll never need another system. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifPeriod!
Peanut <>< 07-04-2004, 10:48 AM Been through 1 winter with it so far, and everything still looks good...very little corosion. I drive around 120 miles round trip every day to and from work, so it saw its share of salt with the winter we had this past year, especially on the Mass Pike!!! (Rt. 90). I'll keep you posted if it rots off, but so far so good.....I have 45k on the system to date...

Turfmower 07-04-2004, 11:10 AM If you don't care a bout looks and you want it loud. You could cut a hole in the hood and put a dump pipe off off the turbo pointed straight up.

Strange, we use a good bit of salt here in Ohio and my 5 year old flowmaster on mine does not look much different than the day it was put on. THe muffler is heavy welded steel and it would take more than a few years to rot that thing out
codythom 08-15-2004, 11:02 AM I agree with the no muffler and no cat. I have that setup with a 5" chrome tip, and it sounds so much better than stock. Gets up quicker and you can really hear the turbo whistle at you.
Mark Craig 08-16-2004, 01:29 PM jmg343,
If you want a good quality system in aluminized, T-409 or the best corrosion material T-304, we have what you want. We have single 4 inch systems, and dual 4 inch systems avilalable too! It will not be the cheapest but we are competitive. All of our stainless systems use T-304 in all the welded hangers as we don't want to hear from you on a warranty claim if a hanger fails, all of our systems come with a PACKED muffler, that is filled with a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool. I know you're after loud but I wanted you to know about the quality we put in all the systems. All of our clams are plated to prevent corrosion too. Take a look at this link:

jmg343 08-17-2004, 08:12 PM ok all he help is greatly appreciated. this is what im gonna do. its easy and effective. straight 5" no cat no muffler nada. Only thing, is this gonna make my truck throw any crazy codes at me, or will it screw my truck up or make it think its screwed up in any way? Also, are some metals louder than others?
on another note, does anyone know how to enable javascript on your web browser so that i can post and reply from home too. even my damn computer throws codes at me
BlueOx03 08-17-2004, 09:52 PM I've ridden in a driven trucks with many systems one of which was strait piped. That was my least favorite..too raspy when you get on it, ask anyone at the Toyota dealership up the street from Eric'shttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif The Bully Dog one is loud, but drones very bad. I loved my loud ass Summit system Very loud, no drone once I had it set up right. ATS Duals and MBRP cool duals are my favs though..mostly cuz the sound roars out of both sides. When I had the 6" ITP tip on the Summit system it was good and loud with a low tone...I think you'd like it...

redneck45 08-18-2004, 07:52 AM Tony,
Your the first person I've seen post about the jegs system, I have been eye ballin it for awhile. Does that system allow for bolting the stock cat/front pipe back in? And how was the installation process?
redneck45 08-18-2004, 01:13 PM Blue0x03,
Is that the summit SS system? They advertise it for $499 with free shipping! That is 304SS, turbo back, SS band clamps, and made by Borla to summit specs! very interesting indeed, too good to be true? Only list them for upto 03 so a provision for bolting the cat back in is probably not available.
BlueOx03 08-18-2004, 04:54 PM I had the aluminized system, it was $300 before the tip. It did not have the flanges. one tip I'll give anyone that runs alumized, put grease in the joints so that you can take it apart if need be. That system rusted more in the time it was in my yard than when it was on my truck...

We have T304, multi-core, XR1, 4" exhaust products available for the late model Duramax. However, they are sold under the Borla name to Borla specs. Please give us a call at 877-GO-BORLA if you'd like to know more.
El Hefe 09-05-2004, 09:18 AM Flowmasters have the best rep for being good. I've never ran them so I dont really know.

That portion of your post is intriguing ~ could you elaborate the part about setup?
Thanks
