I've seen many references to a reflash of the computer prom but no in-depth discussion on how to do it or have it done.

I see Kennedy sells a chip for either $350 or $550. Is this what is meant by reflash? Or does someone actually reprogram their own chip?

Sounds kind of high unless a lot of extra power is delivered.

All I want to do is swap F intake in place of my S and get rid of the 32 and 33 codes I'm now getting. I've plugged the lower intake and unhooked the upper and still get the codes. Darn thing dies after running for 30 or 40 miles, think the problem is electrical and will work on that first. Have new inj pump, lift pump, pcm, turbo, cat converter and remote mount for pcm.

This money pit is about to drive me to dropping in a 427 and junking the diesel. I love the sound and torque of the diesel but this dieing is driving me wild!

Any ideas?

Sanity in question.

ltcps...update your signature in your User CP to let us know what you're driving. 94-95 required only a chip...ssdiesel, kennedy, and heath diesel all offer one. No one can really say one is better than another, it's all a matter of personal preference, and what your specific truck likes. After 95, the whole computer (ECM) needs to be switched. All of the above vendors also program these, and sell them on the market. The performance difference is night and day in these trucks...well worth the $$ from anyone I've talked to.

The one Kennedy lists for 575 is for the 96 and up...
the one Kennedy lists for 350 is 94-95....

The different year trucks have different parts on them.

I have a 95 and just plugged my egr vacuum line. As long as other vacuum lines are hooked up and silonoids and sensors are functioning the codes should not be set. Check for vacuum line leaks. I had to replace my vacuum harness as it was dried out and broken in several places.

If your truck has a chip in it known as an ECM and you get the right one programed for your truck you just plug it in.

If you have a PCM you will replace the PCM with a programed one or get a programmer.

I'm sorry, I didn't mention that my truck is a 94. I too can't figure out why I still get a 32 and 33 code. It's usually under a very light load and the check engine light goes out when I press the accelerator.
