: It finally got me... Injectors!
1BADDMAX 07-02-2004, 03:09 PM Diesel in the crankcase, low power etc. Codes P0087, 89, 93 and 94 were pulled from the computer with the predator. It's in the shop and will be several days before it is finished. Thought it was a bad batch of fuel because it hit about 30 miles after a fill up. Soon found out with the low oil pressure and smell that it wasn't bad fuel. I can't believe it all of a sudden hit. Figured it would be a gradual progression. I had the oil analyzed at 80,964 miles and everything came back fine. The truck now has 81,800 miles. Not even 1000 miles on the new oil. Not really sure what to think now. Guess I'll take it easy and drink a few extra beers for the fourth!!
SaguaroKid 07-02-2004, 05:35 PM Sorry to hear about that. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
SteveNorCal 07-02-2004, 06:42 PM Glad to hear you weren't out on the road for the hoilday weekend and it hit, that would have been terrible. And it won't cost you anything either with the new warranty extension. Enjoy the beer. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Chevysrus 07-02-2004, 08:42 PM Just curious did you have secondary fuel filtration? Seems it may or may not help. Probably delays the inevitable.......
My early '01 keeps on plugging along, but only 40K on it so far. Guess I am waiting for the shoe to drop. Heading on a 1800 mile R/T week after next pulling the car trailer to Seattle and back. Hope it holds together until the '05's come out. It's a darn good truck and GM has stood up to cover it, but "Murphy's Law" says it will happen when I least expect it or at the worse possible time, like at night when I am in the boonies. Wish my dealer would just go ahead and replace the stupid injectors before they fail.......if this was an airplane they would be forced to replace them fail or no fail.
Well at least yours are getting replaced now, you should be good to go after this.
All the best
1BADDMAX 07-03-2004, 12:38 PM The truck is stock other than the Predator and Amsoil air filter. The fuel filter has always been changed before the 15k interval. After I get the truck back I'll change the oil again (I'm sure they change it as part of the service!) and then send off a sample to Blackstone. I shoud have known this would happen. Never thought it would just instantly happen, though. Has anyone else had this happen as quickly?
BTW I did program the truck back to stock. Guess I can send the Predator back in for an update. I guess that's one good way to look at the situation.Edited by: 1BADDMAX
1BADDMAX 07-26-2004, 05:56 PM It's July 26th and the truck is still sitting. The injectors are on order. I took my loaner back today for an oil change (I must have been in a nice mood!). At least I got a newer (2004) Grand AM. The service manager said he had another duramax that had been sitting since June! I popped the hood and it looked as if they pulled the injector pump and air intake.
SteveNorCal 07-26-2004, 06:17 PM Sorry to add the bad news below:http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Down.gif
That's what I've been reading, GM has a major back order from Bosch on these injectors and I've heard it won't be any sooner than 6 weeks before they start showing up!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
mannytranny 07-26-2004, 06:22 PM What does GM think you should do if you need the truck for work!?
Ide tell them to give me a series of 24 hour test drives until I get the truck back! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif
Mine has been sitting at the Stealers since July 15th waiting on Injectors. He keeps telling me it should be a couple of days, every couple of days. Meanwhile, I'm loosing $600. a day in boats I can't deliver. I may end up loosing the contract as the boat dealer has had to contract another guy. Like I say "Professional Grade - the slope of the driveway to the Service entrance".
Captain Beefheart 07-26-2004, 10:11 PM I guess I should feel lucky. I had to have my injectors changed out a few weeks ago and the dealership took care of it in 3 days (they didn't have any injectors in stock but knew where they could find them).
That may be my first positive service-related experience ever. Thanks JBA Chevrolet in Glen Burnie. Although, that victory was somewhat diminished when the tech didn't cover my fenders and now I have considerable scratches from air hoses or whatever on my driver side fender.
compressor59 07-27-2004, 07:49 AM MY 01 went the same way fueled up and about 30-40 miles later after sitting and idling through a traffic jam for about 30 minutes I gave some throttle and it fell flat on it's face.Thought it was fuel but then had no power at all.Dealer said it coded that it had a major loss of fuel pressure this is after a new fuel filter.Dealer had it for 16or 17 days All I can say is raise hell with G.M.hotline and you will get some results they okd a rental truck and all expenses but than some how the dealer got injectors the next day ?
Anyone have the GM Hotline phone number?
Dura_Mike 07-27-2004, 10:05 AM Anyone have the GM Hotline phone number?
Here is a number that worked for me: . (800) 231-1841
I called that number and they told me unless I filed a complaint with the BBB, they could not do anything for me. They gave me the general Customer Service number. I'm trying that now. By the way, I called the Stealer this morning and he said at this point, they had no idea when they would get the Injectors. They are not getting any info from GM.
rickles04 07-27-2004, 11:41 AM that just sucks.....
I just spoke to GM Customer Service. After some checking around, he called me back and said I'm looking at about one month wait right now. That's in addition to the 2 weeks it's already been there. That will sink my boat delivery business. Now I'm paying $750. a month truck note with no additional income coming in and my delivery service ruined. Great product. Maybe I'll let them repo it. They'll have to tow it away from the Stealer.
mwhitfil 07-27-2004, 05:07 PM I must have been lucky, My dealer found the injectors for me in 2 days and had them delivered on the 21st of this month. I said I was lucky but now my truck has 25% less oil pressure than it did when it went in the shop. The pressure is "in spec" but nobody wants to explain why the sudden change. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Mine did the same thing yours did, flood the crankcase with diesel. That gives you something else to look forward to when you get yours out of the shop. Maybe they can sell you my injectors when they replace my engine.
mwhitfil 07-27-2004, 05:08 PM I guess I should feel lucky. I had to have my injectors changed out a few weeks ago and the dealership took care of it in 3 days (they didn't have any injectors in stock but knew where they could find them).
That may be my first positive service-related experience ever. Thanks JBA Chevrolet in Glen Burnie. Although, that victory was somewhat diminished when the tech didn't cover my fenders and now I have considerable scratches from air hoses or whatever on my driver side fender.
mwhitfil 07-27-2004, 05:13 PM Thats alsmost funny......I went into my dealer to check on progress and EACH time I have had service.....about 19 times now.....I have had to request fender covers.......and guess what.....no fenders covers again....I got mad and asked why in the %#$@ I have to ask for &*%$ing fenders covers each time my crap comes in for service. They installed the covers, washed and kinda cleaned the inside and now all the service techs think I am jerk. So what. My fenders are clean atleast.
Toney C 07-27-2004, 07:00 PM All I can say is stick to your guns with GM customer service, make them give you a loaner truck suitable for your business, or look into to having them buy it back under the "lemon law" which may vary from state to state. Don't approach them like a jerk, just plead your case..."your going to loose everything, go bankrupt,etc..." Call them everyday until you get results.
Good Luck
Well, quite a turn of events in the last 24 hours. After talking to GM Cust. Service yesterday and them telling me it’s going to be at least 4 more weeks (he said they did start to ship the injectors for trucks that have been down since June 21st), I got a call from the Stealer today saying my truck was DONE! Seems they got the injectors this morning and the mechanic was able to finish it. So I went to pick the truck up. All is fine and good until I go to pull out of the Stealers and accelerate and there it is… black smoke again! So I pull around the block and it’s back to the Service entrance. The Service manager comes out and looks at the truck and tells me “I’ll have to blow all the old stuff out of it. We checked it out and there are no codes or problems. It’s residual from the initial problem”. Hmmmm. So I said ok and told him I had about a 45 mile drive back to the house and I would “Blow the old stuff out”. It is not smoking hardly at all now. It does have a little wisp of black smoke when I punch it. The oil pressure is fine, but I didn’t notice any improvement in performance as someone else had said after they got new injectors. Time will tell. I’ll be putting some miles on it this weekend and we’ll see what happens. I’m still amazed. Go from 4 weeks to overnight… what gives?
arguy 07-30-2004, 05:23 PM I just got back from the dealer. I got to talk with the mechanic, he tells me that GM has pulled the second version of injector from the parts shelf. They are now producing the third version of injector for the LB7. Still a two to three week wait from now for parts.

1BADDMAX 08-13-2004, 08:08 PM Called the dealership this afternnon. My parts are in! Now the bad news. The diesel tech is out of town until Wednesday. He said they will start on my truck Wednesday morning. He said I should have it back by Thursday or Friday at the latest.
Bronco 08-13-2004, 10:14 PM Dude youv'e got to be kidding right? Your original post was July 2nd. Now it is August 13th. That is something like 40 days. You are telling me that it will be another 5-7 days before completion. So a total of 47 days to get your truck repaired.
You must be a real mellow guy.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
( Or maybe a Daimler Chrysler employee?)
1BADDMAX 08-13-2004, 10:25 PM Not too mellow, but that red Grand AM loaner will never be the same :)
Bronco 08-13-2004, 10:54 PM LOL!
Ever seen "Days of thunder."
Spinmaster 08-14-2004, 01:56 AM I hope your doesnt look like my truck looks like now at he dealer.

Bronco 08-14-2004, 12:01 PM Atleast they remebered to put down the paper floor mats. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
arguy 08-14-2004, 03:38 PM Is this a GM dealer???? I would not let them change my oil!! I would send these pictures to General Motors to show them how these folks are taking care of you. Maybe I am spoiled by clean organized workspaces. We would fire a mechanic that left his space like that.
blnagel 08-14-2004, 04:08 PM I think you need to take better care of that $40K rig huh? JK! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif WOW! That is pathetic. I would demand a total detail job and them some.
Ben
arguy 08-14-2004, 04:52 PM Also don't let them forget to do this!!!

MaxFarmer 08-16-2004, 06:08 PM Has anyone had a NON GM person repair their injectors and still get reimbursed? I have fuel pouring out the pass side of the oil pan and the local dealer tells me 2 weeks min before he can LOOK at it, But I have a mechanic I prefer much more but he's not GM....
Jason
Cruz_Man 08-16-2004, 10:19 PM I think everyone just missed the point. His truck is covered in some kine of dust like from a autobody shop
AND HIS ENGINE IS WIDE OPEN!
They need to flush the engine before the crank turns and gets scoured. Edited by: Cruz_Man
1BADDMAX 08-22-2004, 11:07 PM I get my truck back tomorrow! Had a chance to see the truck yesterday at the dealership. The mechanic was already done with the drivers side and had it back together. The other side was covered with a towel. Everything looked clean and organzied. He already had the injectors in. The wiring harnesses and everything else will go back in Monday morning. I don't know if they used anything to clean the inside of the head, but everything was extremely clean. I'll be sure to keep you guys informed.
glennf56 08-23-2004, 09:18 AM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif I took my truck to the dealer 3 weeks ago for the "BAD INJECTOR" problem. Guess what? It's still in the same place! I called the GM Hotline sat. and they will be calling me back tonight between 5 and 7 pm. I am leaving on vacation next monday, but still no truck. This really SUCKS! The dealer says there is a BIG problem getting the new injectors. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif I JUST WANT MY TRUCK BACK!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif I will post back tomorrow after I get the call tonight.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif Edited by: glennf56
1BADDMAX 08-23-2004, 10:22 AM As of today my truck has been in the shop 52 days. This is totally unacceptable, but I cannot blame the dealership for parts availablity. My luck they will call and tell me it won't be ready today.
1BADDMAX 08-23-2004, 10:27 PM I got the truck back today. It runs good. Hell I've already programmed the computer with the Predator. Maybe these injectors will last longer than 81k miles.
rvarner 08-23-2004, 11:02 PM Lost my injectors while in Colorado Springs on vacation with less than 27,000mi on the odometer on June 30th. Thankfully we were staying for a month in our RV and they gave us a "cavalier" loaner--woop. I was told he only had 2 injectors and would search for the other 6. I got the truck back one week later which I thought was unreasonable but after reading these posts, I guess I'm pretty lucky. My truck started making very loud noises at low idle. Sounded like an old PwrSt**ke. Said he installed the new model injectors but mine were sent back (exchange) under the same part number. Makes me wonder. Also had the 4WD switch changed for the second time to clear an intermittant "service 4wd soon" light. Still does it.

glennf56 08-24-2004, 11:27 AM Well, the dealer called this morning (bad news). He won't have the injectors till the end of next week. Calling the 800 # today. I am going on vacation for the next two weeks, now without my truck. This really sucks!!!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif The people at the 800# say they will negotiate a rental vehicle with the dealer. This sounds like I will need to get my own vehicle. The Washington Post is going to end up with this story before its overhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Broken Heart.gif.
1BADDMAX 08-24-2004, 11:40 AM I see a class action law suit in GM's future! I did notice something this morning while driving the truck that was not there yesterday. I have a slight squeal sound that gets a tad louder with RPM. At idle it makes no noise. My idler pulley has been bad for some time now. I'm thinking that's it, plus the truck sat for 52 days. Oh yeah... I also had to add some coolant yesterday (good thing I had some dex-cool), apparently when they disconnected the upper radiator hose some coolant drained out and the tech forgot to top off the tank. I had to put some in because I got tired of the low coolant message. I will raise hell about that in the customer survey. ****** the free oil change! hahaha.
You made out better than I did. When I finally picked my truck up, it was 1 gallon of coolant low (another $10 bucks) - and they DIDN'T do an oil change (another $30 bucks). To really top (no pun intended) it off, the Stealer said when the Diesel Mechanic "finished" my truck, he quit! g r e a t ... I didn't even get a chance to talk to him. As I was talking to the Service Tech (Assistant Manager) about what they found with the leaking diff, he said it was a loose drain plug. I crawled under the truck to take a look. The cover was still dirty, the drain plug covered in dirt, and the wet ring still around the cover. I swear, they are just throwing these things together to get them out. Really makes me feel good about spending $48k on a truck. Edited by: RSGS
glennf56 09-14-2004, 01:30 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif Six weeks the dealer has had my truck. They got in 4 of the 8 injectors last week. They have no idea about when the other 4 will ome in.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif The good thing is the dealer gave me a rental for my vacation. NO CHARGE!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif But I want my truck back.
motovet 09-14-2004, 03:10 PM I hope IF/when I need injectors they have them stocked. It would drive me nuts to have my truck at ANY dealer for that long. It was bad enough having it overnight at the dealership once. Spinmaster, I would be freaking out if I saw my truck being treated like that....man that is gross!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
glennf56 09-20-2004, 08:05 AM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif Seven weeks today that my truck has been at the dealer. Same old story "The injectors will be in this week."http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif This is getting old.
motovet 09-20-2004, 11:47 AM I feel for you Glen. Did they at least set you up with a free loaner? And is the truck kept in a safe clean place for now? If it where me I would almost be tempted to get a set of aftermarket injectors and get the free labor....though I doubt GM would go for that. Hope you get your truck back soon!
glennf56 09-20-2004, 11:53 AM They gave me a loaner. The truck is ouside the shop awaiting the injectors. If no injectors after next week, I might be tempted to do the aftermarket way.
