Hey all, just wanted to let everyone know I finally installed my Fabtech 8" suspension lift into our 2004 dually and the install went off without a hitch.

All the components bolted in directly as they should with a good set of directions, My hats off the Fabtech!! Great kit, ride is good to.

I am looking for some braided steel brake lines for this application....can anyone pass on some leads?

A year ago or so when I was lifting my 87 burb, ProComp had just come out with stainless braided brake lines of their own, and they were cheaper than anyone elses.

Duramaxdiesel ,Huntsville to Ottawa is 3.5 hours just run the 417 to Hwy 60 right into huntsville. come on over some day.

W_huisman, thanks for the lead, I will check them out.

Mac I have gone with Weld Velociti 8's and Swammper Radials 37 X 12.50 X16

I am just now playing with designing the necessary wheels spacers needed. Does anyone have some experience as to what size ( thick) I will need to get the two 12.50's mounted side by side?

How wide are the 265 tires. I see you are running 2" spacers, can you tell me how much "gap" is between each of your tires.

Who's spacers did you use?

Mac,

I will have pictures for Monday. Right now I have the stock tires on the inside dually, had to do this to get it out of our shop , Hope to have spacers for first of the week.

Thanks

How wide are the 265 tires.

265 is the width in mm. Or 26.5cm or 10.43inches.

A 265/75/16 tire is 10.43 inches (265mm) wide and

[(10.43)x(0.75)x(2)]+(16) = 31.65 inches tall.Edited by: w_huisman

Just went out to measure..... 2 1/4" with my tires. You can go 305's or 315's I'm pretty sure just get a 2 1/2" spacer. Tires just stick out of the wheel wells like 3/16". Edited by: KTDURAMAX

Thanks Wade. Technically you are correct. This will change somewhat when placed on a rim. I wanted to know if KTDURAMAX's American Racing wheels had the factory 6" rims or are the they a 6.5" wide rim.

I did a Ford SD with 315/75/16 on factory 6.5s and we used a 3" spacer which left a nice(little too large for my taste) gap. Keep in mind you are going to get a lot of side wall bulge on the 37s. I would say a 3" spacer at minium..........................Hope it helps

my local parts shop just discouraged me from buying the Fabtech kit - they said it makes the front wheels stick out wider than the rear on a 2500HD 4x4.

can anyone verify that?

KTDURAMAX
07-02-2004, 03:54 PM
It does, but gives more stability for the lift increase. Looks ok to me. I like Fabtech the most out of all "production" lifts. I had one on my '02

Currently nobody offers DOT approved braided ss brake lines. However I have talked with a number of shops that can you the factory fittings and make you a set. Just depends on if legal is an issue to you.

Hey all, just wanted to let everyone know I finally installed my Fabtech 8" suspension lift into our 2004 dually and the install went off without a hitch.

I'm considering a Fabtech 6" for my ride but I heard that the F/T kits make the front wheels stick out wider than the rear. Not sure if that'd even be noticable on a dually like yours, but have any of you guys installed a FabTech kit or do you think this "wider up front" is a problem?

Look at these pics:

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/5E9_rearQtr_z.jpg

this is a 6" Fabtech with Velocity 8's and 35" tires before the fender flares were put on the rear wheels have 2" spacers.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/472_truckqtr_z.JPG

This is after the flares were installed. I got tired of the rocks pounding the side of the truck. Even with a two inch spacer on the rear, the front is still about 1/2" wider on each side.

good luck,

Thanks Deadeye. I can't see any problem with the front tires from these pics - looks good to me.

I suppose that's because you have spacers on the rear though. Who makes them? Do you happen to have a model number or source for them?

Thanks.

I bought them from Performance Wheel and Tire. the have a website. I have used them for about 9 months and off road several tiems. They are actually stronger than the lug bolts on the hubs!

I will try to have pics for tomorrow. Don't laugh, but I have the 37" swammpers on the dually outside wheel with the stock dually inside wheels mounted. Looks really stupid but this is all I can do unitl I get the spacers finished. I had to keep the stock inner wheel in place to act as a spacer or the aftermarket wheel nuts would bottom out on the stud before tightening on the Weld wheel.

I should be done with the spacers tomorrow, as soon as both dually wheels are mounted I will take a pic and post it here.

Don't let my wife here you talk about a ladder, she wants one. I do plan on building some bars or something to help. I will likely design up a set of 4" nerf bars to do the job.

IMO that looks so much better ,wheel tire choice, then those Rickson big rig tires ....

I'd get some of that clear vinyl stuff real soon ...

Tried the clear vinyl deal, never really lasts for me. I think I am going to try to do a set of Bushwacker flares on the front and the rear. I know the rear may have some fit ( and looks ) issues but I'm going to try to see what I can come up with.

I actually am building this as our MBRPinc tow / show vihicle so I have to make sure I can tow our other vehicles without to many rock flying back.

Very nice.....I want mine to look like that soon (only in red). I love a lifted dually!!! Did your wheel spacers work out ok?

MBRP
07-14-2004, 10:11 AM
Kevin, the red does look good. Lets see her when your done. I ended up making my own spacers, did a 3" deal. The tires stick out a little far, I will be shaving around 3/8" off each side to get the outer tire inward a little. The two inch units from Fred would not have worked on this application.

I think I asked this before but who's grill are you running? I need to get onon this truck.

Thanks MB

has anyone installed a dual shock hoop ? Pics? cost? bolt-on or weld? How difficlult would it be to fab a hoop? (I have a friend with 25 years of welding experience and some off road fabricating)
